My 06 cummins shut off today driving down the road . With the key on the fuel pump makes a loud clicking sound. I removed the six bolts that hold the bed on . I also unplugged the tail lights. Maybe I should check if there is fuel in the filter before removing the bed. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Loosen a line at the injection pump and bump the starter to make the lift pump run. See if the pump is pushing any fuel. Does the clicking sound come from under the bed?

I changed the fuel filter . It was very heavy. The truck starts and runs. I'm hesitant to drive it at this point. Checked with a scanner and it showed code 2509? Anyone know? Thanks.

P2509 usually indicates a battery problem. Check terminal connections and grounds.

I just spent 3 months in NZ fishing with my son. I removed the battery's when I left. I just replaced them with interstates. The were weak after eight years. That could be the 2509 code. Now for a test drive.

Replaced fuel pump. I could not get the marks to line up on the locking flange. Did not want to pound on it to hard. Ther must be a tool for this? Test drive went fine no check engine lite.

The 2509 is for removing the batteries, just clear it and you should be good. As long as the locking ring does not come undone should be fine.

Well my truck is back together. New battery's, fuel filter and in tank fuel pump. Check engine lite is off. Test drive was only five miles. Getting ready to pull a 30ft travel trailer 400 miles. Trying to decide weather to have the dodge dealer take a look? What do you think?

I think I would just drive it as much as possible yourself to try it out. Unless you know there is a really good mechanic at the dealership I think that they would just check fault codes and send you a bill or recommend something you don't need.

Just returned from a 600 mile trip. All is well. I really don't know weather it was the fuel filter, fuel pump, or week battery's? Thanks for your help!
