Hey everyone-

I got home tonight and backed in with my trailer, went to put the truck in park and noticed the indicator stopped at reverse. Now the truck is stuck in park with it showing reverse. It's won't start, key will come out. It acts like when you try to shift without pressing the brake. Any ideas? I'm supposed to be on the road early in the morning for a long day of horseshoeing!

It's an 06, 4x4... auto of course!

Thanks!

If you pop the selector down to where the electronics thinks it is in Neutral, will it fool the system and let it start? Be careful trying this, it will actually be starting "in gear" and if it works you could jump into a wall. Of course this isn't a fix but it might get you down the road.

I unplugged the safety that wont let you shift without the brake and i'm able to move the selector now, and it will start in neutral. The indicator won't show it in P or 1. But at least i can drive it! I guess I'll need to research on how to fix the indicator problem now!

My '06 had a bad Park interlock switch on the steering column when it had only 36k miles. Remove it from the steering column and zip tie it out of the way. The truck will operate fine without it but you give up the so-called safety feature of requiring the driver to depress the foot brake pedal to shift out of Park.

If that doesn't allow you to shift out of Park the shift mechanism in the transmission is bad.

Had the same issue with my truck, thought it was a problem in the valve body but turned out the safety interlock switch went bad. Did the same thing Harvey did just took it out of the equation.

OK I found the interlock. I disconnected the wires and then removed the interlock. I managed to get it out of park with very hard pressure on the shift lever. I'm afraid now to put it back into park. will it make a difference if I reconnect the wires?
To move the lever I also had to hold a "lever" to the side in order to try to shift.

I really don't want to have take it to the dealer!
