This is strange, but after I take turn, my 6 speed "magically" surges as if I'm hitting the gas. I'd imagine this would have to do with vacuum or something, but does anybody else have this phenomenon? Any ways to fix?

little confused buddy when I hear surge I think a cut out in power. also fill out your signature area so we know what else you have. have you recently had any maintnance done. also do you know how to pull codes on your dash on the odometer. if not cycle your key in ignition going forward and back 3x ending with key forward in on positon without starting the truck. your odometer will give you codes if you have any. also are you in the fuel/throttle when this happens or are you (coasting) and suddenly happens after you turn.

Yeah I do need to get my sig filled out, sorry. I put in a new VP44 with a Raptor 150, along with a new APPS sensor which I reset, all within the last 300 miles. It kind of takes off after the corner with ZERO throttle. I did indeed mean surge in the context of acceleration. While I still am not quite satisfied with the aftermarket APPS sensor, I don't think it's that. It's only after turning. Any idea how exactly vacuum would tie into the acceleration, since it's a drive by wire? I'm puzzled, hopefully that gives a bit more details.

I should also note that the APPS and injection pump codes are still there, should they clear themselves or do I need to take it to the dealer to clear them out? They were all saying APPS voltage problems, along with the usual VP death codes, and one over boost code. Probably a boost elbow on it from previous owner, would have to check.

did you do the vp yourself or a shop? also do you know anyone in your area that has a smarty. clear the codes see if they reappear. APPS I have heard new ones that are bad but you dont know this yet. you can try disconnecting the batteries let the truck sit for a hour to completely drain any residual juice. reconnect at the same time due the apps reset/adjustment to see if this helps. the only time I had a apps issue but no code in past was I had a dead pedal feel around 2200 rpm's I reset the apps and it stopped. the vp? confused on this. with a new airdog I'm assuming you seeing good fuel pressure to your vp. some codes will clear on their own after starting and stopping cant remmember what codes though that will clear on its own. the codes you see now were they the same codes before you did the latest upgrades vp and airdog. the vaccum I cant see how it would tie in with the problem of the truck speeding up after a corner. before you dump money at something sorta unknown try and erase your codes. if a shop installed the vp I would talk to them also I'm assuming the vp was a new reman. I will have to think of this some if I can catch my neighbor he is my local dodge cummins mech. I'm hoping give this thread some time more should help out that is what is nice on this forum. fill out your sig. post also where you live there just may be someone in your area that has a reader or a smarty. also check your local part stores some have them you can rent. would be interested to see if you can clear them and see if they come back. and there is no start up issues stumble etc. on start up? I will watch this thread hope I helped some. you can call my friends at Source Automotive they are great guys to talk to and possible trouble shoot for you. talk to Rip the owner. good luck bud.

I did the VP myself, as well as the APPS. I did follow the correct procedure for resetting the APPS, in unhooking the batteries and turning on the lights for an hour to drain any memory/capacitors. I think I'll need to attempt to clear codes (no Smarty around unfortunately), get a fuel pressure gauge installed to make sure I don't have any pressure issues, and see if there are still codes that it wants to throw.

As for start up, it takes about 30 seconds before it likes to not hesitate when starting out in 2nd gear. I realize this probably doesn't give much more information for a diagnosis, but I guess I should make 100% sure the injection pump and APPS sensor are "good" before I look deeper into this surging. I appreciate the help. I'll try to get around to updating my sig, but it's all pretty basic at this point.

EBurmeister, I don't know how long you've owned your truck, but a manual transmission truck (98. 5-02) will not let you slow the engine down below app. 1000 rpm when driving It will automatically accelerate the engine to keep from stalling. Mine scared me the first time I noticed it but found out it was normal. I hope I don't insult you with this but people that drive my truck for the first time are surprised by this.
