My Dad's 01 one ton surges while he is cruising down the Highway, it's a six speed and he says it only does it when it's cold outside it did it all last winter, stopped in the spring when it warmed up, and started again now that it is cold. Could it be the VP44?

Normally VP44 problems are more heat sensitive. Cold weather they seem to do okay, but then give trouble in the summers.

Sorry that I don't have a fix for you right now.

Well my truck does it but thats only when the cruise is set and once it starts to slow down you can watch the boost gauge move slightly and hear the engine rev up a bit but I think thats natural. My dad's on the other hand does it when he has his foot on the throttle

surging

If you run A comp box shut it off and then see if it still surges. I recently installed a Smarty and a Comp Box and noticed this as well. On SW#4 and no Comp Box surging stopped. With a load ( 5000 Lbs Camper) and the comp on 2 it did it a little. Good Luck!

First - I have an ETC

I had a turbo that was to big for my HP (laggy). I had no surge. I had it rebuilt into a turbo that is right for my HP (no lag). I now have surge with cruise control.

I think it is because the rebuilt turbo is so more responsive than the old turbo that it CAN respond quicker and that is causing the surge.

My first approach is to put a air valve on the cruise control vaccum line to reduce the responsiveness of the vaccum accuator. Some guys use a WD40 little red spray tube to reduce the responsiveness.

I think it is just much better response (the boxes etc) and you are seeing the higher HP response.
