I took my truck into the Dealership the other day for a crank sensor that went bad, the tech said he downloaded some things into my computer for future TSB concerns so I wouldn't have to bring it back, I didn't seem to have a problem with that, but now my truck is surging around 30-45 mph more especially when it is cold. I have noticed that the pedal is extremely sensitive to my foot as far as bumps in the road or the road just being rough, I hope I am not over reacting here, it is not a real noticable surge you have to feel for it,I am bombed pretty good, has anyone else seem to have run into this?

Your go pedal is sensitive because you've got way too much power!

Now as a friendly and dedicated TDR member I'd be happy to take some of those aftermarket goodies off your hands for you - but only for your sake of course... ;)

thats exactly what happened to me when my dealer was nice enough to "update" my ECM in my 02

how did I fix it???

well you see Im driving an 03 now... ... ... ... ... .

"well you see Im driving an 03 now"

UMMmmm - well, the fella STARTING this thread IS driving an '03... ;)

And he said:

"but now my truck is surging around 30-45 mph more especially when it is cold. "

And like I said in another thread, looks like the "Hesitation when cold" issue is starting to rear it's head in the 3rd generation trucks just as it has in some of the 2nd gennies... ;) ;)

yes I see,

but my point being that both of our trucks were screwwed up by our dealers... ... .

in my case , no one could fix it and I got sick of throwing money at mine with no results

So the hesitation thing, this is Dealer caused or something that was an issue in 2nd Gen trucks. Like I said you have to feel for it, only I have seen to notice it, and thought maybe just oversensitive pedal to the extra power I've added, but seems to me like a slight surge going on, especially sense after being I didn't seem to notice it before I went to the Dealership. I dunno??????

Sorry to throw you off of the topic, but your heavily bombed and the dealer was working on your truck?? Was it warranty work? Did you pull your stuff? Did the tech pick up your mods on the computer?

Good luck getting your truck back to normal.

thanks

Dave

Check the "hesitation with no codes" thread in the 2nd generation engine/transmission forum - it is one of the more detailed threads on the issue - seem to be a few different potential causes for the cold weather hesitation, but many still have the effect even after checking/clearing all peripheral causes - problem is most apparent with power boxes, greatly diminished or disappears when they are removed or turned off - is also more pronounced when the engine is operating under a load such as towing - very low temperatures, freezing and below gets the hesitation/surge started - usually goes away when temps rise. Perhaps the reason this tendency is surfacing so slowly on the 3rd generation trucks is due to length of time it's taken to get the power boxes on the market, and recent colder weather,

Next winter could be real interesting, as more power adders are common, and we again get into colder weather...

Warranty on my truck

I am friends with all of the Tech dept. , Mech, Superv, even the head guy over service, they have all said they don't care, but if a Chrysler Rep. is ever in there they will let me know and I can take off my box, they laughed and said he wouldn't know if the turbo was stock or not, so not to worry about that . :)

Have you tried removing all your bombs? In my opinion there's no way to say what is causing this trouble unless you take the engine back to complete stock and start from there. There's just too many variables here to determine what might be causing trouble.

well I'm going to start with my box, as for the rest of it and really any of it I just dont recall it doing this before I went to the dealership, but then again it doesn't always do it and it does at different mph at times , say once might be at 35 next it could be at 65.

"There's just too many variables here to determine what might be causing trouble. "

And THAT'S the problem - only constant seems to be COLD weather!

Your right Gary I notice more in cold weather, just like today, darn thing surged even around 55 mph. Only when you hold a steady speed, nothing on acceleration or pulling a grade. CRAZY???

I just had this very thing happen to me this morning except that I was going up a small incline with only myself in the truck, no load at all. I first noted a small surge while on level ground with cruise control on, thought it was wind, but once I started into the incline, the surge became very pronounced. Going down the hill there was nothing, then up the next incline, more surging. After letting the truck coast down to about 40mph, then the surge was completely gone and would not happen again.

I even tried accelerating when the surging was going on, but it would not accelerate at all, just kept going slower. This is the first time this has happened to me. The only non-cosmetic mods to date are 4" turbo back exhaust with Aeroturbine, BFG 315/70/R17 and Skylacker D25 coils. I haven't gotten the speedo recalibrated yet, but I don't think that should be a problem.

I read the 2nd gen. threads on this and see that others have had success with changing lift pump, VP44 and/or having some flashes done. I also read a thread about algea growth on the fuel tank plugging the fuel pickup, but I don't see how that could be my problem since it is rather cold up here.

Has anyone come up with a other resolutions to this problem? It's quite embarassing to have a $40,000 truck that can't maintain a speed limit on the highway.

I predict the 3rd genners up in cold country will be seeing LOTS more of this as more hit the road, and cold weather returns next winter... ;) ;)
