I have a 95 Ford... my Dodge does not brake down... and I went out to put on my plow for the coming snow and I pushed and pulled on the 4wd lever and it was pretty stiff. I pulled a bit harder and there was a sudden release and it just flopped loose in my hand. It does not engage anything currently and just flops around. I looked at the linkage under the truck and it is not broken as far as I can tell, but just flops loose. Is this a problem with the tranfer case? I am now in 4wd Low and am out of commision unless someone can help me cob this into 4wd high at the least. Help!

The trans is and E4od if it matters.

Thanks

if the linkage is all in working condition check that the linkage is turning the bolt that goes through the case is turning and not slipping inside the bracket.

if the bolt is turning you have broken a shifter fork inside the tcase. not terrible to fix but it will take some time.

Thanks alot DPS

The linkage is supposed to be attached above the transmission. It seems this is a pivot point for the linkage to operate properly. Well, this is in fact broken so thus the linkage moves wildly up and down and not just front to back. I am not sure how to take the neccesary parts apart to effect repairs. I could weld it likely if I could separate the parts. I just manhandled the linkage forward and I think I am now in 4wd hi. This is the best case scenario for now. Any advice would be great, and thanks.
