So I walk out of work get into my truck and it won't start. The batteries are fine it just won't turn over. I mean there is nothing, not a sputter, not a click, nothing. It is almost as if I were turning the key without pushing in the clutch but I was. I am in dire need here of some help. I am in the Air Force and am deploying in 2 days and don't want my wife to have to deal with it. Is there anything I can do. Please, Please, Please help me. Thanks

Check the starter fuse first, they used undersize wire in the PDC in a production run, there is a harness w relay that will bypass that section.

Are you 100% sure the batteries are fine? When mine went on my 96, there was no warning. I drove it one day, and went out the next, and it did just what yours did. Nothing. The batteries hit the 5 year mark, and they were done.

Check your batt cables may look fine but could have high resistance. But no clicking sounds like the relay per Bob 4x4

This happened to my wife's 2000 a few months back. I had been putting off doing the contacts/plunger in the starter so that was the first thing I did. The contacts were worn down so I figured that this was the problem but it still wouldnt start. Then I checked all the fuses again and found the starter fuse was blown. Whether or not the bad contacts had anything to do with it... I dont know but they are now changed along with the plunger.

Thanks for all the advice. I am almost 100% positive the batteries are good. There is a good charge on them and I even tried to jump it, nothing. There is actually a clicking sound come from the fuse panel under the hood. That is why I am thinking the starter relay. Sounds like it is trying to make contact to no avail. Well I am going to get a new one and try it out.

Well I found that is was the starter fuse. The problem now is that when I replaced it and turned the key over it blew it again. Then I put another is there and it blew it again. Bob 4x4 mentioned a harnes w/relay. Where would I get that at? Do I have a short somewhere else ro what is the deal? Thanks for all the help.

Check your starter cable. I just replaced one (on my old bronco) that had worn through the insulation and was grounding to the frame.

I just had a similar problem, and it was the insulation to the cables going to the starter. The wires had gotten pushed up against the oil cooler lines and the insulation wore away over time. When it shorted it not only took out the starter relay but also the fuse to the power windows. Good Luck

Mea Culpa... I Did Not Read Far Enough Into The Tsb. It Is A Real Easy Fix With The Right Part, It Took Only About 15 Minutes To Put In The Relay / Jumper . problem Is Solved... [ I Hope]...
