about a month ago i realized that i can start my truck without pressing down the clutch. its not normal practice for me but i did bump the starter in gear and moved :-laf . i kinda liked this as i didnt have to climb in my truck to start it in the mornings. 2 days ago it started acting normal again. ok, cool, it fixed itself :-laf . i go to leave my jobsite and truck wont start. lucky i backed up driveway and had the hill to get me rolling. im thinking its a nuetral safety switch and the dealer told me that too. my only problem is now im paying 40 bucks for overnight shipping to get it here. *** happend to the warrenty? anyways i agree to get it done cause a guys gotta work.

i cant find that part anywhere. i want to know how much it costs. it doesnt sound like its worth 40 bucks to me. also ive done a few searches and read something about a yellow wire?

what would cause the switch to fail and allow me to start without the clutch and then take a dump and not let me start at all? i would prefer to have my truck home and not working if i have to wait on parts and pay out my rear to get them here.

all vented but still wondering ***. thanks

Sounds like its the sensor on the clutch pedal, it may have got knocked off the bracket or somthing. You can find the switch and see how many wires it has coming out of it. If it only has two, put a switch on them and when you want to start your truck, flip the switch and it will start.

I agree with the post above, it sounds like the CPPS.

From Alldata

If the vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, it has a clutch pedal position switch installed in series between the ignition switch and the coil battery terminal of the starter relay. This normally open switch prevents the starter relay from being energized when the ignition switch is turned to the Start position, unless the clutch pedal is depressed. This feature prevents starter motor operation while the clutch disc and the flywheel are engaged. The starter relay coil ground terminal is always grounded on vehicles with a manual transmission.

If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, battery voltage is supplied through the low-amperage control circuit to the coil battery terminal of the starter relay when the ignition switch is turned to the Start position. The park/neutral position switch is installed in series between the starter relay coil ground terminal and ground. This normally open switch prevents the starter relay from being energized and the starter motor from operating unless the automatic transmission gear selector is in the Neutral or Park positions.

Testing and Inspection

CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH

Disconnect switch 2-wire connector (2) attached to pedal support bracket (1), under instrument panel to left of clutch pedal.

Check switch continuity with an ohmmeter while operating clutch pedal.

Pedal Depressed - Continuity

Pedal Released - No Continuity

If continuity is not present or always present, replace clutch master cylinder. Switch is not serviced separately

Not sure if this applies to newer Dodge's. Many of the older Jeeps (98+) bypassing the clutch switch was done by either installing or removing a fuse that would've controlled the auto depending on year.

dealer replaced the master cylinder assembly. took it home and got about 5 miles just to hear a neat little crunch noise from the pedal. broke the cheesy little plastic thing that connects the pedal to the hydros. went back and the tech looked at me like i did it. then the idiot took over an hour to pull one out of another truck and install it. i am tempted to void this warrenty early (tst) and go back to working on it myself. truck spent 2 nights just waiting for parts.
