help! we have been having trouble getting the truck to go into gear lately and now its stuck in neutral and wont shift into any gear you can push in the clutch and stop the truck and you can sometimes hit the throttle while the clutch is in and it will go into gear , but now im stuck can anyone help?

Can you get it into gear with engine off? If you can just start it in gear to get moving, sounds like your master/slave system is going south.

If it goes into gear when the engine is not running it means the clutch is dragging. Could be a bad slave cylinder. The slave cylinder is a hydraylic cylinder that pushes (indirectly) the throwout bearing into the pressure plate. It is located on the drivers side of the bellhousing about half way up and has a small (about 1/4" dia) rod extending out of the front of it to push on the clutch fork. When you press the clutch the rod should push the fork ahead 1. 5-2 inches.

so does that mean i need to replace the clutch all together and if so are there any recommendations or differences i need to watch for? thank you very much for your time

There may be a probelm inside with the clutch, pressure plate or throwout bearing. If that's the case you probably will end up replacing the clutch. The best source for clutches and clutch advice is Peter at South Bend Clutch 1-800-988-4345 Good luck.

Kenneth... ... go to your profile page and add what the specifics are about your rig..... kinda like my signature is (see below).

As for the clutch master and slave system... .

Master is mounted to the firewall in engine compartment, has hydraulic tubing going down to smaller "Slave" cylinder that - when you push in the clutch pedal - Slave is pressurized to push the rod that causes the throwout bearing to dissengage the clutch disk from the flywheel on your motor.

Sounds to me like ya should get a friend over to help ya try bleeding the system (there is a bleeder port on the Slave cylinder for this) and see if that doesn't fix the problem for the short term... ... or not... ... but either way, sounds like the Slave cylinder is giving up the ghost. Don't know how old yer truck is (see paragraph 1)... . but it sure sounds like the Slave cyl. is the culprit.

I had a roll pin in my slave cylinder go out last summer (91, 260K then). I had 10000lbs of hay behind it, and I threw in the pedal to stop, only the engine kept pulling. Ended up popping it into neutral and getting it into a farmer's yard to fix it. Took 2 hours and a 10 cent roll pin to fix. Mine is "self bleeding"- no bleed screw.

Sounds like the slave cylinder to me. Parts stores like Napa can sell you just the slave cylinder (about 80. 00) the dealer will only sell the complete assembly,(master cylinder, hose, slave). Before doing anything make sure that the fluid resevoir is full. If it is low you could have some air in the system and that will require bleeding. My prefered way to bleed these slave cylinders is to slowly stroke the slave cylinder rod completely in and then let it come back out on it's own. Repeat about 10 times. This will purge the air to the highest point, the master cylinder resevoir. Note the slave has to be unbolted from the bell housing to do this, only 2 13mm nuts. Hope this helps.
