The problem started about a week ago when the truck didn't fire one the first try. But it started right up on the second try.
Well fast forward to Wednesday, the wife was going to take the truck to work but it wouldn't start, it would sit there and crank over 3-4 times and then the battery would act like it's dead. So I put the charger on it for awhile to charge it up. Still no luck got about 5 cranks before the battery acted dead. So I figured the contacts may have gone bad in the starter, so I pulled the starter off and tested it by hooking it upto the battery with jumper cables and a remote starter switch. The starter checked out okay there. So I figured the battery must be bad or something so I pulled out the battery tester and it checked out okay.
So I started checking the small wire going to down to the starter since I had to repair it recently, but it was fine. The pos. and neg. cables are both brand new so I don't think their the problem. So I stuck the battery charger back on it again on the off chance it might start, well I then started noticing the smell of electrical smoke from under the hood. Which turned out to be coming from the small ground wire that is grounded on the drivers side of the radiator on the fender. I then poked around some more looking at the electrical stuff, noticed one of the grid heater connections was a bit melted (but that was from some corrosion on the connection I believe) and there was a bunch of corrosion around the two relays below the battery.
I am going to finish cleaning the corrosion off and check the neg. ground connection. Is there anything that I am missing that I should check? BTW there is only 1 battery hooked up at the moment I relocated the passenger side battery and haven't got cables made for it yet.
TIA
Nathan
