I have a 2003 2500 High Output with 50,000 miles and the truck won't start . This past week it has taken longer to start up in the morning and puts out a puff of white smoke when in finally starts. I just checked the codes and I get P0633 and P0514. I also just changed the fuel filter which did not help. Any suggestions? Thanks

P0514 is nothing to be concerned with (battery temp sensor rationality... will not cause a no-start, basically a junk code). P0633 is:

"SKIM Secret Key Not Entered"

This happens with the SKIM secret key was not calibrated into the ECM. It suggests either the SKIM has been improperly programmed, your key is improperly calibrated, or you're trying to use the wrong key.

So it seems like you've got an issue with the Sentry Key system. More than likely the dealer is the only place that can fix it. The ECM can be recalibrated with the proper SKIM key using a DRB-III.

So the computer isn't recognizing my sentry key, that makes sense. I tried the Bullydog trial downloaer a couple of days ago and after it was downloaded, my truck did not want to start then. We then returned it to stock and disconnected my batteries and it fired right up, so it probably has something to do with that. Any idea why it takes longer to crank and puffs out white smoke when it never did this before. And that happened before I tried the Bullydog program.

lift pump gone?

Has the lift pump been changed out. All the 03 and 04's were bad pumps, my 03 is booked in for a new pump to be installed in the fuel tank.

The SKIM code shouldnt be keeping it from starting. Mine has had that code from as long as i can remember and it has never had a problem. I know my truck key is programmed because i have tried to use a blank key and start the truck and all it would do is turn over and not fire.

So the SKIM code won't prevent it from starting. The truck would turn over and not fire one bit last night. I used my second key that came with the truck and it fired right up this morning like nothing was wrong andI am still getting the same codes.

Go back to the original key that gave you problems and see what it does. If it works then something is screwy, but if it doesnt work and your second key always does then I would say the key itself has the problem. Test the two keys one right after the other so the situations are as close to the same as possible.

I will try that as soon as I get back in town. I was so glad that it started this morning and needed to get to the airport, that I did not dare shut it down.

Thanks,

Chris
