Greetings-

Tonight I stopped at the officer's club for social hour and when I went out about an hour later to start my truck it would not start. I have not done any maintenance to the truck recently and there were no engine warning lights. The starter kicks over, the radio plays, and the lights all work when I try to start it. I can hear the fuel pump run after bumping the starter like I learned to do for the fuel filter change, but the dang thing will not start. I did a search, and there is some good info in there. What should I do tomorrow after I am done at work to troubleshoot this problem. I am just hoping that it will start after sitting, but that is too optomistic. If it is the VP-44 pump, is that covered under the 100k warranty? Thanks for the help.

Sounds as though you're not getting fuel.

First, check to see if the fuel shutoff solenoid is operating.

If so, then check to see if you're getting fuel @ the fuel filter.

If so, then check to see if you're getting fuel to the injectors.

Let us know what you find out. Good luck.

Gave Up - sent it to garage

Thanks for the help, but I am just not getting any fuel to the engine. I called the tow truck and it is at the dealer as we speak. I will inform everyone about the solution. Thanks for the support.

Jän,

One question wasn't answered - it's yes! and don't let the dealer tell you otherwise - the lift pump & VP44 are covered under warranty. Recently saw a post from Steve St. suggesting when you take your truck to the dealer try to hide/find a way to lock them away/out of tapping into the truck's PC. You're liable to get a re-flash you don't want. You can try to search for recent "reflash", to get more info.

Look forward to hearing what they find. Good luck.

I am an auto technician. If I were diagnosing a "no start" condition and the customer had placed a pad lock on the diagnostic connector... . I would tell the customer to remove his vehicle from my shop and NEVER RETURN! The fact is the dealer is not authorized to flash your vehicle without your permission EVEN IF IT'S A RECALL! State in very plain english that you do not any flashes under ANY circumstance. If you're really paranoid about the flash tell the service manager you'd like him to hook the DRB up and show you the pcm (cummins controller) and JTEC (chrysler controller) part numbers. Do this again when you pick up the truck, they cannot flash either of these controllers without altering the part number of the controller. The number doesn't change on the outside of the controller but the DRB knows the difference.

Well I got the truck fixed. I had run out of gas :( - a $50 sending unit cost me over $370 in labor towing and repairs. Most expensive tank bought yet. I probably would have figured it out at home, but since it was stuck on base there was only so much troubleshooting I could do. Thanks for the help.

Well... ... been there, done that! Just not as expensive. I even told the dealer they were on crack for assuming the tank was empty. :p

The sending unit should have covered under the warranty and I hope you will get a membership in one of the clubs that have ERS like Good Sam Or the one from KOA cost about 80 to 99 a year no limit on tows . Have you changed the filter ? and get the factory manual . Tow trucks can come on the Base just have to check in at the gate most of the time except alert in progress . P. S Diesel works best in the tank :p LOL Ron in Louisville KY
