Truck just cranked and cranked.

Left key in "on" position and lifted fuel shutoff solenoid rod upward.

Plunger rod remained in the "up" position and truck started.

Is this the Relay or the Fuel Shutdown Solenoid?

Leaving for 8 hour drive in the morning. Can I keep starting the truck this way for a week or will this eventually not work.

Where's the best place to find the part (relay or solenoid) Dealer only or Cummins shop?

Gunna have to try an get the part before places close TODAY - everyone closed tomorrow...

Thanks

IF it's the relay you can get the 30 amp auto relay at Radio Shack and it will work. The RS number is 275-226. Anyway, once you get it started it will run ok as long as you want. Kind of a PITA to have to start it this way, but it won't hurt anything that is not already in trouble as far as I know.

Thanks Joe!

On my way to radio shack right now to get the relay and give it a whack.

Just my luck, I wore a white shirt and tie today...

I put some ArmorAll on the solenoid boot just last night along with the rest of the rubber under the hood. Can't imagine this would have had anything to do with it.

I'll update once I've got the new relay on.

Back in Business :)

The Relay did it !

I actually stopped by a local Cummins repair shop on my way to Radio Shack. Part number NV 2012557C1 30amp Relay $3. 03.

Radio Shack 275-226 is same thing.

Once again TDR pulls through - under an hour from when the truck first wouldn't start to fixed and running. Thanks Joe! I know you can't hear very well, so let me say that again a bit louder; "THANKS JOE !"

Knowing we have an 8 hour ride in the morning and the weather's looking bad, I went through everything from tire pressure, fluid capacities, made sure snow chains fit the newer (taller) tires, Armor All'd everything under the hood and inside the cab, refilled the windshield wiper reservior (use this alot in the winter on mucky roads), packed tools in the tool box, insulated coveralls and boots in case I had to get out into the elements, etc.

And wouldn't you know it... . the unexpected happened(s).

Had it not been for the TDR I would have had no clue as to lifting the shutdown rod with the key on AND I wouldn't have it fixed already AND I wouldn't be walking away for under 4 bucks.
