Excellent reading

where to buy a service book?

Spike TV has been having a marathon on all their tv shows lately and I caught the Trucks one. I was watching the episode with 6. 0L and the Banks Six Gun install. Something got my attention towards the end of the show when he was testing the truck. He said "The truck really comes alive once the turbo spools up. " or something close to that.

This struck me as odd since I heard the 6. 0L have the VGT turbos which allows them to create boost at idle. So why would you have to wait for the truck to "spool up"? Or is he just hiding that they don't have much low end power by using the turbo spool up excuse?

You know it nathan. They are pathetic on the bottom end. It is just a line. Them things are the best equipped to scream off the line but the cummins is faster. Now even though they are both 325hp and the 6. 0 has the advantage in the quarter with lower reciprocating mass and higher rpms. The cummins still wins because it launches so darn well.

Still at low rpm they arent making max boost. Thats where the power is at. With no turbo our cummins makes like 110hp. The turbo once up to boost provides a lot of power.

Seems I've seen 2 or 3 Powerstroke shows, 2 Duramax shows, did they have a Cummins show yet? Recently, I know they did a Banks show a few years back, but don't recall anything lately.

Spool Up Time

My buddy just got a 2004 F-250 crewcab 4x4 with the 6. 0 diesel, i got him a superchips microtuner for his truck and on the hi-performance setting, it suppose to add 150hp and 250 ft lbs of torque, WOW very impressed. But there is a very slight delay in boost, the truck will smoke Black for about 2 seconds and boost is right now, the smoke is gone and it would spin the tires all the way threw first and almost all of second gear and then it would hook up. It now shifts at 4200rpm with the chip installed. We'll have to see how it holds up to this abuse. :--)

Did anyone else catch the "How's it work" at the end of one of the shows where the Diesel teacher comments that glow plugs are "old technology" and now adays we have "intake grid heaters" which do a much better job of providing warm air to the cylinders? Hee hee! ;)

2 things to notice... .

1. he barks the turbo after full boost when driving down the road... idiot.

2. he wasn't "just finishing up" bolting the banks exhaust. look at the truck, it has a dual 4" exhaust system. no cat maybe?

the 6. 0 stock is fast, faster than a 24v or 12v stock, can't say that for third gens. and ya, all power is above 2000rpms.

I was wondering about the exhaust system... . they never showed him with hands on it. Then you can see the tip on the left hand side of the truck. The only problem is, I never saw any smoke out of it when the right side blew smoke. Maybe a fake dual exhaust... I'd hope not, that would just be sad.

I was going down Westimer one day, and say a red 3500 with stacks. The only problem was that smoke was only comming from ONE of them, the other was dummy!!!

Talk about laughing to yourself!! :D

Ya gotta be kiddin me!! I once had a small commercial fish boat with a 1940 Buda four cylinder diesel. It had a grid heater.

I stopped watching those guys when they screwed up a '40s (I think it was a '47) International Pickup. If there was any pickup just asking for a inline six cylinder 5. 9 Cummins diesel that was it. Instead of that they shortened the bed, chopped the top, and put a chrome V8 in it. Just another run of the mill hot rod like all the hot rod shows are making. They called it "Heavy Hauler". Maybe two sacks of groceries would have fit in what was left of the bed. Those guys would not know a truck if it ran over them.
