note page 8:

(DH----)(w/DEE) 6-Speed Manual Transmission – (DEG) now available

That is under the "out for model year" page

The DODGE site is wrong about the 6-spd availble (kinda)... The error is due to both being on the Lots right now - So yes, both can be bought... But only one can be ordered from the factory fresh

I hope this dispells any rumors that the NV5600 is rising from dead from dodge's parts bins -- New orders will be the G56, 100% (as much as I am still wondering why... I am patiently waiting for the first G56)

any ?'s - let me know

PS - BOTH ARE HD trannies - Just like when the 2003 SO cummins was only called a Cummins diesel, but was still a turbo (even though it was not mentioned - But the HO was called the "cummins turbo diesel")

I expect to hear high praise for the new transmission. Just a hunch, but I think the new buyers will like it. We'll see.

I'm wondering this as well. Right and up for reverse is just wrong.

it makes perfect sense to me... to me it seems they are using the same gear set for 1 and R [same ratio's] but with the reverse idler engaged to get reverse. [that's why i think they are in the locations they are in on the 5600. 1 & R are both at the rear of the transmission]

I hate to tell you guys, but I heard some very unpromising things about this transmission yesterday. Cummins themselves have blown a few in their test rigs that they are running around the country. And they were 100% stock. Not too mention the flywheel is now a dual mass flywheel. Anyone familiar with the PSD knows that Ford ran a dual mass flywheel on most of the years of the PSD. They were notorious for seperating and coming out of balance. Hopefully this one will be a better design.

Great ... another DC screw up!!! Didn't they look at the G56 touque specs before deciding to mate it to the ISB? Why can't they just go out and get a proven transmission!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like they did with the engine!!

Why not get this or at least a FS-6404.

I think anyone planning on ordering a new truck with the new 6-speed is taking a huge risk ... like being the first one to stick their head out of the fox hole.

I can't wait to see the post in the next 6 to 12 months about input shafts breaking and clutches disentegrating. I'm sure Southbend will have plenty of new customer in the near future, and Dodge will loose many.

Dual mass flywheel?! Great! I just paid $4,600. 00 to repair the damage from the dual mass flywheel in my GM diesel coming apart and taking out the transmission input shaft, etc.

I remain hopeful that the G56 will prove to be a decent transmission, but I feel alot better having a couple of NV-5600's in my trucks.

Dave

BTW - my first G56 transmission is on its way from Mexico

It is a sold unit, So I will not run it hard... But I will test drive it for safety, etc

I am VERY anxious, as you can imagine

PS - IS THERE ANYONE HERE NEAR WARRENSBURG OR NEOSHO MISSOURI?? --- OR WOODHOUSE CHRYSLER??

They already show a few trucks with the DEG (G56) transmission

GOOD NEWS -

Gwoody may stop by Neosho Dodge and drive the new G56

I called and asked the dealer trade guy if it was there, and he asked if it was the one with the "funky shifter, w/ reverse by first"

He did say he did not notice the difference until he looked at the shifter

I asked if he knew about the G56 - he said "Whats the G56???"

Figures :(

That's why you have a good market here on the TDR; you're one of the very few salesmen that know (or care) anything about the products you sell.

I thought right and up was 7th gear. :{

That's why I'm glad it's a heavy duty transmission!

BTW, I drove a ZF 6 speed Ford once and wan't the least bit impressed with that shift pattern - 1st down and on the left. Seems you lose most of your momentum trying to get from 1st to 2nd pulling a load. I like it straight from 1 to 2.

Reverse Up and to the right puts the shifter out of the way when parked!

Well thanks... I am chomping at the bit to get that transmission here to test it :-laf

"Reverse Up and to the right puts the shifter out of the way when parked!"

i agree 100%

what about the fact that 6th gear on the G56 is not going to be as high an overdrive. shouldn't we see the 3. 55 diff come back? or maybe even a lower ratio? these engines have so much torque, they don't need the RPMs when cruising at 75-80

remember, i don't tow anything regularly.

Just in case you are interested in the gear ratios:

1st----------------6. 29

2nd----------------3. 48

3rd----------------2. 10

4th----------------1. 38

5th----------------1. 00

6th----------------0. 79

Reverse------------5. 74

:D

And it uses ATF+4 auto transmission fluid!

I'm glad I have the 5600. It's not a race transmission, but from what I can tell, for pulling heavy stuff it's pretty hard to beat. I haven't heard anything bad about the NV5600 so I can only guess they are going with the new unit because it is an in-house unit.
