guys i learnt here that one way to fix the rear axle shaft leak is to buy a redi-sleeve or speedi-sleeve. but i cant get one here in Newfoundland even if i could it would cost $70. for a little thin sheen of metal! crazy!

someone mention the idea of not allowing the seal to go all the way into its place in the bearing hub thus allowing it to ride on a new surface that doesn`t have a wear notch.

this makes sence but isn`t it gonna be though to get the seal siting at a 90 degree angle to the spindle where it rides, what i`m saying is that the seal can be easily "out of line" because it isn`t pushed against a metal guide?

anyone have a remedy for this or is it a big deal?

The seal itself may be at fault, particularly if the seal surface on the spindle is smooth and not excessively worn. Try just replacing the seal. If there is a lot of wear from the old seal rubbing on the spindle, you can try installing the new seal in the brake hub to a different depth than the old one was. You can use the end of a vernier caliper to get the seal to the same depth all around, instead of just hammering it in until it hits a shoulder in the hub. Or, you can just install the seal until it is flush with the end of the hub hole into which the seal is pressed.

thanks , i have replaced the seal several times, there is certainly wear on the spindle where the seal rubs. what do you mean by a vernier caliper?

I think I paid 30 or 40 for the one I did. Yes they ere expensive! I'm not sure with the exchange rate and shipping but if it would save you money let me know and i will but one here and mail it up to you. Just make sure you hve the right part number I bought one based on the aprt number someone here had listed and it didnt fit. I had to use a micrometer to get the size and then pick the right one off of the website. I might still have the smaller one lying around if you want to tell me the size I will look for it and check it you could have it for the price of shipping

Seems to me that NAPA or some one was making a replacement seal that actually located the seal lip in a different location on the axle!!

someone makes an oil bath setup that would fix it but I can't find anything... Iam having a problem with mine and nothing has worked... .
