I never used warranty for anything that I remember. I have had a few new vehicles over the years. My old 99 never really went for warranty except when the first lift pump went bad early on. . Dealer wouldn’t replace it at the time.
They where in denial that there was a problem. Anyway I got bombed so warranty was over. So moving on now. If I don’t change my oil and filter and one year and 15 k exactly do I void my warranty . How much wiggle room is there . Months and miles etc. It says in the owners Manuel rotate tires at 7500 what if I go to 10000 is my tire warranty voided. So being late is one thing but what about when I changed oil / filter at 3 k do I get to go to 18 k and one year and more. Sounds stupid but I’m really hard pressed to understand real time

How do they know if I changed my own oil. Or a independent. Only if there a motor issue I suppose than I have to prove it. What if they don’t reset my computer when things are done

I don’t know about FCA warranty, but I tried to warranty some tires a few months ago, they were at the wear bars at less than 30K miles. They were worn evenly, not cupped out, and I had rotated them religiously every 5K miles, but because I hadn’t paid someone to rotate them and had a receipt, there was no proof I’d rotated them.

If you have done at dealer, they have the records. If you do yourself or use a indy you would need to provide proof services were done. One time I was trying to get warranty engine replacement on my mini van, they asked if services had been done. I grabbed the log book I keep of every thing done to the vehicle and started looking up mileage and dates. As soon as I pulled out the log book discussion of services being performed stopped and things progressed to the next step. Eventually got new engine and just the log book existence was enough to satisfy them.

First off, I would not try to extend the oil change interval. It’s plenty long, and not restrictive.

For maintenance you conduct yourself just be sure to keep records and receipts.

In an opposite expertise as @BigPapa I just got 36% of my purchase price back on some Cooper tires. I did 3 of the rotations and because they were in my log there wasn’t a question or hesitation on the warranty.

Recently @Cummins12V98 had some trans work done under warranty and he needed to provide receipts for independent servicing.

There is no requirement for the dealer to do your work, but you do need to document what you do.

Tires are a wear item and only covered for 12K miles, they will make that and likely not much more.

I've changed my own oil and service for years except one time that I had right arm in a cast for a few weeks. Before that I had one of the local dealers change my oil on an old Ford station wagon and they stripped the oil plug so I had to do that over at my own expense as they said they did not cause that problem so since that time I have done my own oil and service. and as far as warranty goes I have always kept the receipts for the oil Rotella T6 and the Fleetguard filters as well as fuel filters and kept that information in the back notes pages of the owners manual and photos of the ODO at the time of the service and if it had to go in for anything and was questioned I could present the documents that I kept and this so far has been good enough. I am soon going to have to do the filter and oil change on the 68 trans in my 2016 2500 and will document that and use filters and gaskets from Geno's.

As above you can do it yourself as long as you have a receipts with a "plausible" date on them. I doubt they care about small items, but, a $20,000 engine, $10,000 transmission or $12,000 fuel system it's worth the OEM, not the dealer, asking "questions".

I have Airpark Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM (not the selling dealer) who is treating me well in service. I did have to Pull Teeth out of FCA to get the V06 recall parts put on as FCA 'stalled for time'. Nothing the dealers could do about it. The stuff the dealer can do this dealer has.

I am neck-deep in a GMC mobility vehicle the family has ... There are two dealers here that will not touch it. They know their limitations and one simply declined to work on it admitting that. Neither will ever get our business regardless of brand their big name franchises sell for even toilet paper: like one name sells RAM pickups at another location. The dealer that works on the GMC now is exceptional. Did I mention we are DOOMED to walk when the big three try their beancounter mentality that put put lemon laws on the books (cheap, cheaper, junk electronics with yummy to critters soy biased wires) talent toward em.

The above said: Look for a dealer that has the highly modified Police or other Government vehicles in the service lot. These are the dealers that may be able to color outside the lines and fix the %^%$# electrical problem(s) that may come up. Although the advice is sound it did not work for the RAM Truck only store concept I bought my 2018 from as they couldn't figure out how to do an alignment with the V06 weld so the service advisor refused to even try. That advisor is gone, but, their inability to answer the phone isn't overcoming the past.

Do have the alignment checked with the first tire rotation (5000 miles) as it's covered under the adjustment warranty and the suspension has settled in. But... it's your tires and the radial pull I had from an alignment problem haunted the truck till I got it finally aligned and the tires (on my dime) replaced.

Well, it's nice to be optimistic!! I had multiple warranty issues before 60K-GPS unit, radio unit, front wheel bearing, etc. The Max Care warranty I purchased through Zeigler was awesome for everything. Now there is some delay due to their "inspection" policies, but I get that. At the end of the day they have come through for us including engine replacement at 77,000 miles.

Anyone ever notice that if you take the truck in to the dealer and have more than one thing done, they don't list on the description all of the things you asked them to do? Sometimes I think it is so if they didn't do it well, they don't have a record that they did it. Even though they swear to you they did it, it is not on the description. It has been years since I've been to the dealer because i have lost all confidence in every stealership in S. FL. An example might be that you have them change the oil and ask them to lube the front drive shaft. They list the oil and filter change, but don't record that they lubed the front drive shaft even though they swear they did it.

Ok I got a log book for new truck which I had before on old truck and will save my receipts and I guess I will see what happens. Yes the dealerships leave a lot to be desired. I know why I did as much maintenance on old truck that I could and making sure it got done . It’s sinful what they charge for simple maintenance things etc.

I’ve never had that happen.

We always listed everything we did. Once, I even listed I’d cleaned the windshield on a particularly nasty car.

Not all dealerships either! My dealership always treats me right, documents well, and does quality work. I think my dealer lists oil and lube. And they check all fluid levels too. Bluebonnet Chrysler Dodge Ram in New Braunfels TX. Most of all, we trust EACH OTHER.

I had a good experience at Sam Leman in Peoria, IL.

Didn't ask them to lube the front drive shaft, but they did and noted it on the paperwork. It was when I asked them to change the differential fluid in both differentials.

However, there have been a couple times here locally that when they do work, they write something totally unrelated to what I asked them to do on the paperwork. Or their paperwork description is so general that you could not tell exactly what they did.

Going to correct this post. I looked back through what paperwork I kept (cleared out some paperwork when warranty expired) and discovered my memory failed me.

It wasn't the paperwork that didn't match the work performed. The paperwork was mostly accurate, but what was uploaded to my Ram App (ram app that documents work done both by owner and dealer) was mostly wrong/innaccurate/incomplete. So it wasn't the paperwork that had the mistakes and omissions. It was the ram app that the dealer input service info into which I assume must match what the dealer thinks they did.

I have had very good service from Pedder Ram ,D and J in Poway CA .Be thankful when those Crapstones wear out . Then you can buy tires that last !

you know those Red/Yellow/Green slip they give you for the 80+ point check.... I got one once and it mentioned that I needed tires soon/worn, marked as yellow ... I went back in and asked to speak to the manager, I asked them to show me where my tires were worn - in need of replacement soon... Oh by the way the tires had maybe 30 miles on them, still had the shinny sheen on them and the little tabs rubber expansion nipples from tire manufacturing ... Should have seen the uh and oh and back talk that came out, it was so funnny... That dealership was so shady it was sad.
