After reading TSB 09-001-01, "Intermittent loss of oil pressure sensor ouput voltage.

This bulletin applies to 2500/3500 diesels with engine serial number 56744083 to 56809910. The output voltage of the oil pressure sensor may intermittently dropout. This condition may cause the engine oil pressure gauge needle to erroneously indicate lower than actual oil pressure. A warning chime may sound and the “Check Gauges” lamp may illuminate. The Engine Control Module (ECM) software has been revised to address this condition. Replacing the oil pressure sensor will not correct this condition. "

I figured that it would do no good to replace my oil pressure sender, (my engine is in the specified range), so I took it to the dealer. After some assurance that power and mileage will not be affected as the ECM is being modified and not the PCM, I let them perform this mod. What a joke!! All it did is change 0 psi to the 40 psi mark on my guage:mad: !

With the engine off and the key on I have 40 psi oil pressure! I showed it to the mechanic, (who has a CTD and may soon be a member), and he could not believe it. It seems that DC would rather spend about 20 minutes than have to buy new senders!

Has anyone with an engine in this serial numbver range changed the oil pressure sender and had the problem solved?

Don't you feel violated?

I did! Polarbear, they got me on that one about a year ago. Mine did the same thing after the reflash. Take it back and show them. I did and they finally replaced the sensor with their part number #14029053. The guage works again, it goes to zero on the gauge with the engine off:eek: but who knows how accurate it is now. After the reflash and new sensor, it always shows 40 lbs at idle, whether hot of cold. If I remember correctly, the STAR hotline will tell the tech to replace the sensor after the reflash screws up your gauge. It's a pisser, ain't it!

Polarbear.....

On the advice of a diesel tech (really) at a dealer, I had my mechanic replace the sensor, inspite of what the TSB said. That was over 25K ago, and no problems. The diesel tech said that the re-flash was the "mother of all re-flashes"..... covered all of the priors, and there was no way to predict whether the famed loss of power result would occur. I know this seems nuts, but my mechanic knows this guy and trusted his opinion, so that's what we did.

This another good reason I refuse to allow my truck to be re-flashed. I got lucky on the low power re-flash back in 1999. I won't take any chances again.
