After reading TSB 09-001-01, "Intermittent loss of oil pressure sensor ouput voltage.
This bulletin applies to 2500/3500 diesels with engine serial number 56744083 to 56809910. The output voltage of the oil pressure sensor may intermittently dropout. This condition may cause the engine oil pressure gauge needle to erroneously indicate lower than actual oil pressure. A warning chime may sound and the “Check Gauges” lamp may illuminate. The Engine Control Module (ECM) software has been revised to address this condition. Replacing the oil pressure sensor will not correct this condition. "
I figured that it would do no good to replace my oil pressure sender, (my engine is in the specified range), so I took it to the dealer. After some assurance that power and mileage will not be affected as the ECM is being modified and not the PCM, I let them perform this mod. What a joke!! All it did is change 0 psi to the 40 psi mark on my guage
!
With the engine off and the key on I have 40 psi oil pressure! I showed it to the mechanic, (who has a CTD and may soon be a member), and he could not believe it. It seems that DC would rather spend about 20 minutes than have to buy new senders!
Has anyone with an engine in this serial numbver range changed the oil pressure sender and had the problem solved?
