I believe what happened to my truck this morning involves this TSB 09-2002-02.



This is the thread that I had read and prompted my concerns and knowledge of this issue.

My wife and I enjoyed a nice off-roading trip in the Unitas this last weekend. I had read about this TSB and was cautiously



monitoring my oil pressure thoughout our 20-mile off-road trip--it's an idiot guage but the best I have. I would consider



our trip moderately offroad. The only other vehicles we saw were two jeeps, a Ford and a Dodge. Every few miles, I'd jump



out of the truck and check for any leaks. I saw no signs of loosing oil. I even took two extra gallons for an emergency



such as this. Upon returning to pavement late last night, I checked the oil at the nearest diesel station. We arrived home



and everything was fine, until this morning.



I walked out the back door on my way to the office and about *?##&@ my pants. :D

My baby was drenched and dripping in oil.



I've attached a pic of the inicident. There is a huge puddle (2 feet in diameter) underneath the truck that the picture doesn't show very well.



It took 5. 5 quarts of oil to top her back off again.





Question 1) Do these pictures reflect what this TSB addresses?

Question 2) Is this TSB covered by warrenty? I have 11311 miles. Bought truck in 04-2002.

Question 3) From the previous threads, everyone shows a great concern for any DC tech touching this. Is there a dealer in



UT--SLC--Wastach Front that has performed this TSB and is trusted?

Question 4) Is this going to happen everytime I want to go to my favorite secret Unita fishing lake or was it a freakishly strange occurence? This was our first trip with the new truck. Should I get the kit installed or elimnate the bottle via the next thread link's information?

As soon as I mentioned a TSB to the service tech, he became almost beligerent and stated that they are not covered? :mad:



I had just stopped by to ask a tech to confirm what I believed to have happened. The service "DUDE" stated that he believed



this to be true and if I would like a tech to look at the truck, I could drop it off tomorrow morning. This is my third instance in their shop and am tired of being treated like a moron who doesn't know his head from his a**! There are technically oriented people in the world--it's a shame that they think they're the only ones around. What a lonely life! :)





Thanks for the forum! The info hear is worth thousands of $ and if you do a little research in the threads its incredible what ideas you can find.

I've been watching this thread since noon today west coast time.

No one chimed in. There's another thread that has the same TSB number running for comment too.

I can't help notice by your photo that the major amount of puke is on the right side? I say this because unless the angle of your desent down the mountain was extream to that side I would have guessed the most mess would have been on the drivers side. I say this because of where the puke-bottle is located on the front of the timing cover. Now my question to you... have you removed your puke-bottle? You gotta do this if you have not done so. I might ask if you haven't done this 1st mod then perhaps your puke bottle is full (or was).

I'm just guessing... but I don't know how the heck this could happen to this extent. :(

Josh, don't touch your puke bottle and take it to a dealer in SLC. Tell them where you drove and what happened and ask them to fix it. You are covered by your warranty, so use it. Don't tell them the TSB unless they tell you they can't fix it. If they then say no ask for the DC rep name and number and inform them that if they don't fix your truck you will be writing a letter to DC complaining about their service. That is real hard on their 5 star rating and they will want that too not happen. Good luck. PS. You have a new truck if you start taking thing off of it and modifying it you will then be your own warranty station.
 
Take the picture with you and show it to the service manager. That way it makes it hard for them to do the old "can't reproduce problem" on the service order.

Pit Bull is right. Take to DC and tell them of your problem. Take photos. They are obligated to do the repairs or modifications under warranty as long as you are within the 36 months or 36,000 miles. I would even look into the 7 year/100,000 mile engine warranty for possible coverage.
 
there is a dealer in the town just south east of Ogden up the canyon named Morgan. . the dealers name is Carrigan motors and the head Mechanic is VERY good diesel guy who takes his time and finds the problem [small dealer in a small town so the shop is not high production get'em out place]. . any way his name is Clint. . get a hold of Heber Ram [Steve] or drawson [Dee] and they will help you get better info on the dealer... .

IMHO we all need a dealer like this place im trying to get him to... they care and know the diesels ! [and will not scream VOID at the first sight of a small pin prick ]

Joshua. . first of all welcome toTDR

As you can see all of us help one another with all sorts of problems and cheer our success. I see by your Bio that you do technical things. I would encourage you to do a search on this "bottle" it's called many things however, I believe the proper term is "blow-by-bottle". It's the dumping point of an old "road draft tube". I'm sure with research you will discover that the factory did this just to keep a few drops of oil off the street. However, due to it's location right behind the fan and on the very front of the timing cover it's easy to see and understand that fan wash or very windy conditions are present in this confined area. I and many other members have elimnated this "bottle" and extended a longer tube down past the steering box just like an old 1955 automobile before the smog nazis got control of our machines and our wallets. I like my simple none warranty vioding modification and my engine compartment is nice and clean sence there is no atomized oil particals blowing all over the place. My dealership is cool and they like it when their customers take a common sence approach to a stupid design error. If a down hill slant like what you encountered were to occure in my truck the messy oil would not have slimed my truck due to this simple modification that the dealership wants to do in a different way. I would like the TSB to be performed on my truck too but in the meantime I don't have this problem due to the help of my fellow TDR members advice. I prefer taking care of myself and not relaying on others to do it for me. Appointments at a dealership take time from you, your family and fishing trips.



Get over it guys... it's just a road draft tube save the *****ing for something worth while like a VP-44 PROBLEM!
