TC lockup

I pull a 40 foot gooseneck regularly... ..... and while in 4th gear if i hit a bump or something that jolts the truck pretty good, the TC will unlock and then lock back up a few seconds later... ... is this caused by my foot on the gas being moved around when hitting these bumps or is it a TC problem(TSB 18-02-99)(Electrical Noise). I also have noticed that if i have the cruise control on it will not do it... ..... only when i am controlling the speed.

Jason, it is your foot bouncing. If you can get the side of your boot sole against the transmission hump it won't do it as easy, or like you said you can use the cruise control more. I am not sure but I think the sensitivity to unlock is all that is changed when they reflash for the electrical noise. I know they do nothing to get rid of the electrical noise, so it seems logical that they just lower the sensitivity. Mine is pretty sensitive too, but it runs great and gets great fuel economy, so I just live with it rather than take a chance on something getting messed up by a reflash, or getting the wrong reflash. Hope this helps.

Thanks LSMITH

I watched it again today, and I do believe it is the bouncing of my foot that does it..... Thanks for the help LSMITH.

reflash...........

DodgeBoy,

Keep an eye on your TC situation. Mine started out just ever once in a while. Then gradually over a 2-3 week period became more often. Then a couple of weeks ago on a trip to Lake Charles it started and did it all the way home. As long as you were taking off it was fine, but when you were at cruising speeds it would shift in and out. The cruise helped, but it actually got to where it would do it with the cruise on too.

Local trans shop verified it was the computer shifting it out of lock-up and not the trans going bad. Called a dealership right across the State line and told them what it was doing. Took it over to them that afternoon. They reflashed the trans with no problem. I asked about any new programs for the Cummins and when they tried to reflash it the computer locked up and went haywire. Had the computer replaced and all new programs loaded, plus bought a bottle of LSD modifier and the total bill was $32. 00. Good people to deal with. Just glad the computer went south while it was there and not on the road somewhere in BFE. Good luck and take care.

Thanks ISBPilot!!!!!!

Thanks for replying... ... ... So far mine is doing O. K... . and it only does it when i am towing and hit a bump... ... . and it is not every bump... . just some of those big nasties on I-10... By the way, who was the dealer across the state line... ... . were they good to you?
