There are several posts about this topic, should I or I shouldn't, etc. but it is what I want for my situation. I want to lock out OD without splicing wires or too much garage time.

I had the flash done last week (twice) and it didn't take. The dealer said after the second try that it is a failure of something else on my end, a faulty ground somewhere. This second tech said that it wasn't shifting into 5th gear so it worked fine. I explained to him that it doesn't have a fifth gear and he stormed off. They wouldn't refund my money so I left and seek advice here.

The service writer said that the flash enables the lockout by disabling the ground to the 4th gear solenoid..... ?

Can anyone please shed some light on what the problem might be?

Thanks

Step 1,Flash the ecm to the correct level. Step 2 go back in and enable the od lock out.

If you have a smarty you must go back in with the drb each time you change the smarty(in or out)

I am not a tech nor do I have access to their software or a DRBIII. I don't have a smarty either, so not sure what gives on the simple dealer flash... ?

They probably forgot to enable it. Like Bob said, its a 2 step process and even those steps need to be done correctly or it won't take. Since the tech stormed off when you pointed out it doesn't have 5th gear, I think you found the problem. ;)

I would politly go back and say look, to do this TSB is a 2 step process, please hook up the truck and verify that the second step is completed. . If it isn't I will call the bank and my credit card compay and denie the charges seeing as you didn't complete the second step for me and find a new dealer to work with.

I can't stand dealers that Rape the customer because they have a scan tool and you don't... especially when they don't even know how to use it.

Thanks for the help you three !

I will go back and have them complete the process. Cerb-disregard the PM from Friday.

Thanks again !

SUCCESS! The dealer agreed to check the second step and found it hadn't been set to disable O/D with the DRBIII. It does fine staying in 3rd now.

Thanks Bob4x4 and others for your help!

The haul up to the 9300' campground worked great with the ability to disable O D. I mentioned to my wife after we got home that I am still amazed that the truck has the original belt and hoses at 159,000 miles, and she said "It must be built ford tough"... . I am sleeping in the camper again tonight.
