I just picked up my truck yesterday and I took a copy of the TSB for mileage improvement with me to the dealer. Well, as I was checking the truck over I looked at the SN on the engine and it falls in the range for the TSB. But when I got back to the dealer and asked the salesman about it, he showed one of the techs in the back my TSB and says my truck doesn't fall into that category. I didn't push the issue but how is it that this truck doesn't "fall into that category" when the SN is clearly in the specified range?? I think the tech either a) didn't know anything about the TSB since it's pretty new, or b) was too lazy to reflash it. Should I go back and demand they reflash it?

James, I'm in the same boat. I have an '05 which also falls within the engine serial # and date range. I'm still on the original tank of fuel, so it is much to early to see what the average mpg's will be. I plan to monitor the TDR boards from other members who have gotten the reflash. From what I have read so far... . looks fairly promising. There is another thread from "ot of here" titled "600 owners... your gonna love this" which talks about a fix/reflash from cummins due out in October. Right now, I'm in a holding pattern.

could someone let me know what the TSB is and where to find it . I am getting like 13-14 empty . I NEED some relief. Diesel just went to 2. 09 a gallon. ARGGG!!!

Its TSB 18-037-04 and is available to ALL dealers as they download it from the internet into their Tech Tool which they then use to load in to your truck. I had to state I was getting poor mileage to get them to reflash my computer with the TSB, otherwise they wouldn't get paid by Dodge for it. Tschwab, this is the TSB Outta Here was referring to and will supposedly help fuel mileage and if you have white smoke at start up, it will fix that also. I had done to my truck because I'm always looking for more mileage. If the dealer won't do it after you tell him your getting bad mileage, tell them you want to talk to the district manager. It doesn't take long to do the reflash so if your truck is eligible for the reflash, you shouldn't be catching any grief over it. Now that you know the TSB number, take that to them and they shouldn't have a problem finding it...

Coasty,..... Nope it isn't. It is for the same thing but not the same one. The one you have listed is from DCX and may well do the job, but my Post was for the Cummins TRP for the same symptoms but it hasn't been released yet but is supposed to be sometime in October. Just for clarification.

Try $2. 25 per gallon in WA state.

How about 2. 49 a gallon here  :--) and my tank is empty :{ , time to get the dang bicycle out. The dang fuel bill is going to start costing me more than the loan on the truck.

Outta here, I called the Cummins hot line in mid September for info on the TSB reflash and the only thing the tech knew anything about as far as reflashes went was the 18-037-04 TSB and that it would be released utilizing the Dodge dealer system.

Where are you going to get the Cummins TRP at? It seems odd that Dodge and Cummins would each release a seperate fix for the same percieved problem, doesn't it?

If I get the flash from DC and cummins comes out with something better, will I be able to get that one too? I am new to this tsb stuff and also are the trucks built after the cut off date comming with this new flash?

I've thought the same thing as far as it being odd. Maybe when DCX gets complaints on engine related things they pass them on to Cummins and then Cummins went to work on it. Who knows.

I got the information last week about the TSB 18-037-04. Then I called my local dealer here in Anchorage on tuesday and was in on Friday and they had it done in the morning. The next day I had to haul my party barge and trailer out to the valley for storage about 65 miles. I noticed an improvment of at least 1. 5 on fuel with this load and on the return trip to town I was getting a varience from 16. 3 to 16. 8 on the over head trip meter. This might not be accurate as it was not hand calculated and the TSB also adjusted the over head trip comp. I did not have the white smoke on start up and this was a TSB correction also. This is better than I was getting and in 2 1/2 weeks I will be heading down the ALCAN to Yuma and will see for sure then.

Coasty,

I just talked with my contact at Cummins Hot Line and he verified the 18-037-04 was indeed the same TRP as DCX's TSB and that it had been released the 27th of Sept and not in Oct as he originally told me so that makes your comment accurate and mine not. My apology.
