Hi J. ,
I think your decision to try elsewhere is a good one.
My truck was built in Mexico. The TSB/re-flash was accomplished by my dealer (Dishman) at the dealership. (The TSB makes no exceptions for Mexican-built trucks. )
Everything points to your service tech being mistaken. It is unfortunate that he is finding it difficult to accept the new info. We TDR members are all very lucky to have a nation-wide cross-check system of fellow-owners and their service departments, so we are not limited-to/at-the-mercy-of any one individual or dealer, who may not be fully up to speed on one issue or another.
Good luck with the new service dept, ... and your rig.![]()
Hey Wolfy,
Took my rig to Fremont Motor Company here in Cody. I was highly impressed with the level of service I received from this dealer. They applied four updates including 18-033-07 Rev B. The other was for a rough shifting issue and the thermometer was not working correctly. They are sending me the list of updates and the TSB's in the mail. I am glad I took my truck to these guys.
Had the reflash done, and then 10 miles later "catalyst is full, see manual" Back to the shop on the fifth, I wonder what caused that mess.
I have one quick question how can you tell when the regening is happening. I have just under 6000 miles on my 6. 7 and don't know if its done it 1 time or 5000 times. Thanks
The exact same thing happened to me. Had the update yesterday and the "catalyst is full, see manual" message today. Took it back to the dealership and they provided me with the dealerconnect technical document which states it is now my responsibility to drive at 50/60 miles per hour for 45 minutes to clear the soot. That will be impossible here to drive continuously for that time at that speed. Makes me very unhappy to say the least. I wonder what percentage of their market drives their vehicles like that.
Thanks wolfy. I have been looking into guages. These new pickups have alot of info and I would see some of that.Hi Rowdy,
"Passive" regeneration happens as a matter-of-course, while driving at normal highway speeds/exhaust temperatures, ... you will not realize it, ... it is described by Cummins as being "transparent" to the driver.
"Active" regeneration can apparently be noticed as an unusual and sudden increase in exhaust gas temperature, if you have an EGT sensor/gauge to show it.
Reports vary as to frequency of this event,... with fuel and driving habits seemingly the most common variables.
My own truck, for instance, did not exhibit this indication untill it had around 1000 miles on the odometer. At speeds which usually maintained about 900-1000 degrees on the gauge, the temp went to 1200-1225, and stayed there, interrupted when I slowed/stopped, and returning when I resumed a steady speed for awile.
I got home after maybe 15 min of this, and have not driven since, so don't know if the process will resume-till-finished as described by Cummins, or not.
I assume the ECM is recording the time spent in "active" regen.
This has beeen my first/only experience of this, so have little to go on,... except for the reports of other TDR members.
An EGT gauge is highly reccomended, if you don't have one.
Good luck,
