In your 180 hp pump, the #4 will give about 20 hp and 70 ft lb more than the #5 when both are in stock positions. The gain is in the 1500-1900 rpm range. You gain nothing shoving the plate more than 0. 040" (1 mm) forward of stock. You can, however, end up with the rack stop pin being hammered until it breaks if you shove the hotter plates all the way forward. It has become "popular" to shove the plate forward without regard to effectiveness, by those who have not dyno tested plate positions. Be cautious; your pump is expensive.

Joe, I have a # 4 Jannety plate in mine. I pushed it all the way forward. Should I slide it back? If so how far? I'm somewhere

around 295 hp with that one I think.

TST told me Jannetty was once a dealer of theirs, and talked to them on the phone a lot to get info. Now that he is making his plates and using his numbers, you will have to ask him. I don't know what a #4 of his is. Sorry.
