I was just wondering for all of you out there with tst boxes are you able to use them to there full potential or are you being limited by stock components. The add claimed that they where producing there dyno numbers with a stock truck with there box only but it sounds like nobody can run at level 9/9 is this true. I would like to buy one of there boxes but not knowing if it will work properly is making me hesitant in doing so.

Thanks RJ

The short answer is no. The add claim is 150 hp/ 500 torques with stock turbo, exhaust and airbox. They did do that. The stock clutches and automatic transmissions however will not take it and if you upgrade to something that will the egt's are very high. This is the most powerful box currently on the market and if you want one you can grow into it's a good choice.

I'll second that. I can slip my clutch on 5/5, however 4/4 is still really impressive to me. This is my first Bombed diesel and I can't believe how much power this thing has. As SRadke said, this is a box that you can grow into. That's why I got it. Clutch next, then exhaust and turbo.

As of last tues the code tripping problem was still stumping them. Mostly it trips a PCM code, 606 I think - but only on 6 speeds. It doesn't store it or cause the check engine light to come on but if you go look for it, it's there. Mark at TST told me there still working on it but it only happens to a few trucks. When they get a fix the s/w upgrade will be provided free of charge.

My box should be here next week, I think I'll try to stay at 4/4 or less.

Does anyone know what level is safe for towing?

TST says 3/3 max for towing. I haven't towed anything yet, But I noticed on 3/3 running empty, a reduction in egt on hwy. I'm running 315's/3:73, so I think the extra power is helping to overcome the extra resistance from the larger tires.

This is the first and only box I've had. I wasn't to sure about the pressure boxes, so I waited for the TST. You have the EDGE, so I'll put it like this: If your EDGE on 4 , on a hard run, makes your a@@ feel like it's in the back seat, then it's like the TST on 4/4. In my truck, 4/4 is the absolute limit. I think the clutch might be starting to slip here. 5/5 it most definately does, and what a horrible sound that is. So, if you got no clutch issues ( EDGE 4 ) then I would say the TST has it beat. But I've still got another 5 power levels to go. I can't even imagine what 9/9 must be like. Somebody who has run the Edge and TST and other boxes would really be better able to answer your question. Like I said, this is my first box, and first bombed diesel.

TST boxes, clutches, etc.

I direct courses at Indiana University and sent TST an email offering to buy their box AND a 1000 Tq clutch and have both installed at their facility while I'm at IU this May, PROVIDED they could assure me I wouldn't have code issues with my '03.

They didn't even bother to answer my email, which, from my standpoint, could mean one of two things. Unfortunately, neither gives me a comfort level I can live with at this time.

I understand your disappointment w/ them not returning emails but I have found the folks at TST to be refreshingly forthright with info when I've called them. They readily admitted it sets a code and we discussed what they're doing about it. All in all a very nice company to buy from.

TST CODES

TST called and to tell me that my box was ready to ship, they also said the box would still throw codes on some trucks. I spoke with Mark and was assured that the code was not detrimental to the engine and was due to "A lack of noise [electrical] that the box produces after intercepting the crank signal". Could be the TST signal is more refined than the DC computer is accustomed to? BTW I told them to ship my box, I will rely on their good rep. and cross my fingers. RAY

Thanks for the report, and I too have heard good things about them. But open lines of communication is the best (and least expensive) way of building a business and maintaining one's reputation.

A grand for their product and gauges, plus another grand or more for a 1000-ft. lb clutch is a chunk of change to spend with a business that won't return email messages.

I think I'll wait awhile before doing business with TST.

You also have to consider you sent an email and didn't call them. I have noticed with a LOT of diesel upgrading companies that their forte' is TRUCKS not the internet. I am the same way... I would always rather send an email than pick up the phone, but I can think of at least 3 times I sent emails to different BOMBing companies with no reply (once to TST), causing me to get a little miff'd and when I finally picked up the phone and called them, they were very helpful, competant, and answered all my questions, including why they ignored my email. Pick up the phone, you might be surprised. :)

I may do that, but judging from what I'm seeing here on the TDR, I still think I'll wait. I won't take a chance on blowing up my truck (no pun intended), no matter how much I like the TST product.

By they way, I got back my "reflashed" box friday... I installed it sunday and I hope I dont JINX it, BUT i have not had ANY codes or hiccups, or any funny engine things YET!! ( no clunks or anything upon deceleration)

SOOOO... . again, no JINX, but I think my pop-code days are over

(and the power on 6/6 is dy-no-mite!!)

PWR GALORE!

And you're still running a stock clutch? Wow ... I heard from TST today (by email) and Mark said they don't know yet what causes code flashing. I'll give 'em a shot on my truck at their joint in May, assuming they're willing to take the box back if it doesn't work.

Tomeygun,

How is that OFE holding the TST? I think that is the rout I'll be going if it will hold it.

I have now towed over 1000 miles with my TST box. I have tried 4/4 and 3/3. I am towing a 14,000 5th wheel and in 3/3 you can keep up with traffic pulling away from a light. On 4/4 you can pass them. . I have the HO 6 spd and a AFE intake. I have yet to see over 1050 egt towing. I installed a LUK Pro Gold clutch system as my stock clutch lasted 1 day  with the new box. Mine has thrown codes so I will be calling Mark this week. I also get 2 more MPG towing (steady 65) and 2. 3 more MPG around town running on 3/3. :D

I must admit, when new the clutch was VERY grabby and worse in reverse... but i called southbend and they said that the con ofe is a very stout clutch that requires about 500 city miles to break in, and then it will start to get smooth, and will be able to hold the max HP. . a NON-broke in clutch will not hold the rated HP

well with 450 miles on it, it is starting to get noticably smoother/better, and i have had it up to 6/6 with no slippage... I will try 7/7 and 8/8 tonight... I scares me a little because I have no FP guage yet, next on list, the PMCR & CONofe really hit my pocketbook hard, you know?

all in all, i like my set up, but will get a turbo next (other than pusher pump & guage)
