Comp Problems..

Loading the Dyno-----

I have used my TST PowerMax 3 for 12 months with no problems. Got it reflashed last week to a competition version. You can really feel the extra power come on, and it comes on quicker. Thing is I now have a problem. Truck runs flawless no matter how hard I push it, but the problem is I get a stumble when backing off the pedal. This problem is ONLY when coming off the go pedal. It starts real faint on level 5 and gets REAL bad as you progress up to number 9, so bad it feels like something is gona break. Trying to come off the pedal real slow helps some.

Anybody experience this or have any ideas?

Tia,

Paul

This is normal. It's the nature of the beast-- and the TST Comp box for VP44 trucks is in fact a beast!!

The only real solution is to back off the pedal easily. Think like you're driving with a turbo that barks easily, and avoid sudden lifts of the pedal after a WOT/high boost/high RPM run.

Justin

Oh yes the barking turbo, I don't need to think like it barks easily because since the comp reflash it does bark real easy. TST said the stumble coming off the pedal sounds like the Map Sensor is closing too slow and needs cleaning. Does that make any sence to anyone?

Paul

Is it a stumble or more like the transfer case falling out? As you said, the accelaration is phenominal, but if I let off the pedal with the tst on aything above 5, it feels like the transfer case or driveshaft or something just exploded, especially on 9!

I don't know about the MAP sensor, but it sounds easy enough to try.

By they way, how's your egt's?

Yeehaw

Your description is about right, stumble is putting it mildly, more like it falls flat on its face for about a second. Egt's I have seen above 1400 but not for long. I towed the travel trailer this weekend and messed around with level 1 and 2, both were ok for towing with egt's 1200 or less. Dodgezilla easily gives 47lbs boost now.

I guess I am happy since TST said level 5 on comp is same as PM3 level 9 and level 5 stumble is not realy noticable.

I can deal with it up to level 7. My egt's are a killer though. Sounds like the Dodgezilla is lowering egt's alot since I can get 1500+ at will. I have 275 inj and the stock turbo and am getting 34lbs boost.

How's the edge work when stacked with the tst? What do you have the EZ set at?

Can't really say how the stack works because I have always had it that way. The EZ is set on the default setting which I think is max power. Maybe one day I will unplug the EZ and see what the difference is. I go back to the track this Thursday so I will see what the comp (and BDRad) gets for me in the 1/4 over what I had.

Dino, in regards to your stumble with the TST, I have to tell ya. How in the world could you drive it over setting 5? After I got yours on and started crawling up the settings things were alright until I got off the throttle. I thought the front end was going to come out from under the truck. I then just tried to drive it normal like I used to with the Drag Comp on 5x5, there is no way, all of the cut in and out when I try to hold the pedal in one position. I soldered all of the connections, and let me tell you it is so touchy it barks the turbo bad. I have to get this figured out before I put my twin turbos on. Although it is more responsive than my Drag Comp, I just hope I can figure this stumble out.

exact reason i sold mine and got the drag comp. the drag comp is "smoooooth" power and actually showed more rwhp on the dyno than my pmx3 comp stacked with an ez.
