With my upgraded transmission and 215 injectors am I still limited to the #5 and #6 plates or can I move up to the #8, #10, #11, and #12? I noticed on the chart from the website that injector orfice size was a factor too.

TIA

Nathan

The smaller the number the more fuel so changing to a #11 from a #6 would result in less power for your 160 pump. If you want more from your pump you would move to a #4 plate.

Hold on a second Joe!!

If he puts in a #4 then those of us in the North East will have to suffer from more smoke and thus more emissions regulations (here that is). He's got to run stock and we up here in the N. E. can run large plates - Next stop is Europe and who cares anyway.

I personally would go with a 10 plate. I have personally seen a manual trans 215pump truck with 370's, stock turbo and a 10plate put down 393 and 950 torque. If you need more than that, get a 0 plate and really go to town! :D Piers Recommneds a 10 plate for about everything till you upgrade your turbo. A 10 is about all you need. My 6 has a funny fuel curve. I don't recommend it.

I laid down 416/898 (see mods) with STOCK INJECTORS too. . Yep, stock 215's. . I am happy with those #'s, and do not see any bigger injectors in the future right now. . a 10 plate would do you good.

It appears you are still running the stock plate.

A #10 is nice in an auto transmission truck. You can pick any number. I would stay away from the 12 and 11, but any number 10 or lower will yield good results. The 10 yields good HP and is a little easier on an auto transmission.

Jim Fulmer installed a #10, GSK, and bumped the timing on a 180 pump and the truck yielded 285HP on the dyno so it is capable of much more than the TST chart suggest.

what plate would u go with for this setup? 95 12v DTT,370's, 3gsk, timing is set at 16, stock turbo. what would # of plate would u go with?

From what I understand from reading threads and talking to folks at Piers, it is more than just your setup and mods that indicates the best plate. I pull heavy at high altitude on long steap grades (7% and more). Piers didn't recommend going with a 10 plate due to high egts. I ended up with an 11 and I still cant run wide open on the hills in 3rd - 5th gears due to temps. My recommendation is to call the vendor of your choice and tell them your setup, mods and what you use the truck for. To me it's not worth having the most power if you can't use it for pulling hard up a hill. Although it sure is a kick in the pants running around empty. :D

Ndurbin,

#10 = mild = ) crecent shape, stock turbo

#4 = good = > crescent shape, stock turbo, but controllable egt's.

#0 = wild = | maximum fueling with 21 mm rack travel, will need turbo

Plates are addicting, easy power. You'll want more. I would recommend #4. Controllable egt's and stock turbo will do for some time. . 191's DV's would help that pump squirt alittle more fuel too. It'll help feed the injectors with a small pump, but does create smoke. #10 plate is fun, #4 is... . FUNNER! Same shape, just deeper (more fuel). My opinion for auto's is #10, #4 or #0.

Powerwagon,

Dads truck is 95 12v with you same mods. Stock turbo I would recommend #4 plate. You can still have smoke control with that. We loved the truck with #4. If you want the most bang for the buck, just get a #0 plate and be done with it. You'll have smoke though with the #0, controlable but you have to be light footed to not make smoke.

I would also recommend some . 191 delivery valves with that little 160 pump especially is you have the 1100-1200 rpm stumble. The . 191's and a #4 or #0 you'll think you got a new truck. #4 has a crescent curve to it like a #10, it's just deeper. The crescent is cutting you fuel back at low rpms and high rpms. The #0 is flat, maximum fueling at anytime the throttle is pushed to the floorboard.

. 191's and #4 = :) can be handled with the stock turbo, but warm on the air.

. 191's and #0 = :D but you really will need some more turbo, you'll be over fueled and hot on the egt's. We peg the 1500 pyro with the sled behind it!

A #10! Keep in mind the #10 acts a little different in a 215 pump vise a 180 auto, a #10 in a 215 pump is Hot, a #10 in an auto pump is nice in stock position but gets a bunch better if you add . 030 more plate or so.

Hope this helps.....

For those new to fuel plates... . there is a world of difference with a #10 in 96+ 5sp versus any other pump (auto or manual). Anything but a 96 and newer manual with a #10 yields a modest increase in power (note the TST, Piers and others Charts. ) I does complement the GSKits well. No EGT issues, easly on the Auto transmission.

In a 96 on up manuals you get the results (or very close) to what Chris and Josh speak of. With the plate slightly forward my 96 is at 388hp and 900 tq. Yes it can be borderline for towing, yes it will overpower a stock clutch, yes you will be running very warm (need turbo or at least bigger housing). But all thes problems (good or bad) apply to 96+ manual trans trucks (215hp pump).

In a manual (big pump) truck, one should consider stock plate location or maybe even back with a conservative AFC position if power and EGTs are a concern.

It is a great plate.

Does anybody know the difference between a Banks and a TST plate? I understand TST has their plates numbered and banks does not. I'm wondering what plate comes with each Banks kit. I have the Stinger and would like to know what TST plate it is comparable to. I hate to go buy a TST plate only to find out that the one I already have installed is the same thing. I was also wondering if the turbo orifice elbow that comes with the TST kits the same for all TST plates. And am I correct in my understanding that a turbo orifice elbow can be made by drilling a . 060 hole in a standard fitting?

Thanks

Steve

See my sig, this is a 215 hp setup when stock and my EGTs are not a problem except when racing or towing at very high altitude and then just backing off the throttle a little makes everything good.

Well I've got the #4 that Piston Slapper so fondly remembers. I moved it all the way up today and then put down 115' of black marks--you know, to check the EGTs. ;) :p

If you've got the transmission/clutch to hold it, run empty most of the time, and don't live at high elevation--- I'd go straight to the #4. I'm running 215 injectors as well. Stock turbo seems happy with it. I thought I'd have more smoke. But then I learned to drive smokeless with my 24v and that darned auto downshifts when you really want to lug it.

I also have the AFC spring from TST to help with smoke control. It must work pretty good. Lawrence's 180 pump with a #6 and stock injectors puts out more smoke than mine. We're going to put the other spring (kit comes with two) in his--see what happens. Oh yeah, he has stock timing--forgot about that.

When I get ready for a turbo upgrade, I'll go to the 370's or EDM's and larger DV's.

But don't pay me much attention. I'm just starting down the 12v path.

I'm a quick learner though, I can take the air horn off in 32 seconds flat-blindfolded and with one hand tied behind my back. :D
