Any one using the TST J-hook? It is supposed to do the same thing as a boot elbow and will work with the hardlined waste gate on the 2001 turbos.

Thanks in advance.

I was thinking about using the j-hook or the disel DD thing to fix the problem. Just got a email from Keith at DD and there little thing to fix the problem is not offered seperatly. You can only get it if you buy the boost module from them. Still waiting for the reply from TST about the J-hook deal but I suspect it will be the same. I wonder if it is possible to switch out the hardlined part with a piece off an older turbo or maybe a different model of the same turbo????? I may just plug it and drill a little hole in the back were no one can see it with out taking off the hardlined piece.

<font color=blue>Well I need a fix to but my solution... ... toss the whole turbo.

Probobly put a 12cm2 turbo with waste gate on my truck. Probably will need it with my PE and injectors, we shall see.

Kat,
That is a expensive solution, but probalby a good one. I was not planning on bombing that far for a while so I was looking for an easier fix. I am thinking now about trying to find just that hardine part and messing around with it in the shop. That way I can screw up one that is not on my truck. I am fairly sure you can just order it through cummins as they assemble the turbos from domestic parts (according to the Holset web site).

I was being a bit sarcastic, but hey. . it sounded good. I intend to play with it myself here when I get them time. Just had gauges put in my truck tonight (Ramkids rocks!). And the JRE Exhaust and Hot PE go in tommorrow!

If I can't get a hapy solution to the turbo I will simply replace it. #ad

the tst jhook is available seperatley , cost is half a rock , a little pricey to me for what you get , a spring and bracket , but its stealh , and that seems to be the name of the game.

Thanx for the info Mopar-muscle -

Bout time someone sold it seprately #ad
But I guess I can't use that for an excuse to replace my turbo now tho #ad

Mopar-
They emailed me and told me it was not available seperatly, who did you talk to?? I think this would be the way to go for now as it is stealth. I want to get a few more miles on before I void my warranty. However I must admit that the service manager at my dealership said "do what ever you want, I will cover it as long as you don't break it twice". Who knows if that is what will really happen. However he did give me the business card for the local diesel hotrod shop.

<font color=blue>Stealth? I vaguely remember that word. Guess I should look it up in the dictionary. Although my Autometer #15002 dash pod does look like its factory #ad

I sure hope it is the altitude because the way it sounds the PE will be practically useless to us till we put on a bigger turbo or a pyscotty air. I was thinking about the pyscotty air any way and now I may have a reason. I figured the $75 for the K&N stock replacment will buy half a pyscotty air. I really don't want to have to replace the turbo yet. What I am hoping is that the cool Alaskan sea level air will take care of the problems, either that or level three will be a winter thing only.

Frijole,

What were your EGT's/Boost #'s before you plugged the actuator tube. I am getting 1200F and 20psi on lvls 1&2. Thanx for the info.

Dave

I was towing in NW Nebraska (5600 ft altitude -- surprises most people who look around and see it's "flat") last weekend and with DD stage IIIs and ORIGINAL Powermax I had a hard time going over 1100f -- had to WOT for awhile to make it get that hot. BTW: I've noticed my EGTs are higher at WOT when empty then they are when towing. Weird huh? EGTs climb much more rapidly when empty. I think it has to do with a more gradual build in boost vs. a spike -- more air more consistently. I'd have to say that under load (towing) my EGTs are atleast 300 degrees cooler for the same amount of throttle.

The point: pull the 'trumpet' feed thingy off your fender well where it feeds the airbox and you'll get an amazing increase in air flow w/o altering the factory setup. You'll notice right away the filter minder won't move.

i talked to the woman that answers the phone when i called TST about a month ago and she said they would sell it for 50 bucks . they must have gotten alot of calls and decided it wasn't worth the profit margin on it ( which i bet is pretty LARGE) . but i'm guessing. oh well , i think ron has a good mod ...

ron how long have you had the edge ??? call brett and get his take , i'm sure they will do whatever it takes to please you , they have been great so far.

Ron-
Thanks for the info, I was real worried for a while there. It might be a good idea to post this high EGT at elevation problem in a new post and see if someone has a solution. I am guessing that it only effects us turbo-challenged folks. Once again thanks.

John

What about an Air Bulldog Hood??? I would hate to have the intake so low as you are gonna try to do.

<font color=blue> Ya I know it probably wouldn't happen, but you could use that as your "reason" for getting the hood to your significant other #ad

I intend to try that hood but its not high on the "priority list" yet.

Let us know how ya make out, I am sure there is a solution, just gotta find it.

On removing the air trumpet thingy -- will get more underhood air but only enough to make up for what was missing before (still get's all the fender fed air). I quess I should note I have an exhaust blanket on the engine so my underhood temps stay low compared to some.
