OK, just a question to all of you in the know, or those who have many miles on their motors with an aftermarket cam plate.

I just installed a TST #8 plate (230/605) in my '98, 12V, automatic. The power is good at 1,700 + rpm, some of you have responded to my earlier post, to turn the AFC star wheel towards the motor to increase low to mid RPM power, I plan to experiment with that this weekend.

My question is, have I put my Bosch P7100 pump in jeopardy by installing a larger cam plate? 99% of the stuff you read about cam plates is very positive, however, there is a small minority that have said, installing a larger cam plate without going to larger injectors and/or having the pump recalibrated, may be asking for trouble.

Should I be concerned about the larger cam plate causing damage to my pump in the long run?

Joe D. , Piers, Ted... . your comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your pump is now delivering more of the fuel it was intended to deliver #ad
A bigger plate will help even more #ad

The 180 hp injectors are bigger than the 160 hp. I suggest considering injectors when the uprate is around 50%+ over stock.
Your pump is fine, your Ram is fine, but your bombing days have just begun. They will be even finer after a few more episodes #ad

I think when you think of puting your pump in jeapordy from increasing pressures, you have to consider how often you are using the extra power. I love my truck now that it has the more power but probably 85-90% of my driving is with the cruise set, pushing the same amount of fuel as when it was stock. I don't think I use the extra power enough to put the pump in jeapordy but that's just my opinion and we all know what they say about those #ad

I put my 230hp/605 plate in my 97 110k ago, and have had nothing but good luck so far. It's otherwise stock, with an automatic, and it still amazes me how quick & responsive it is. I have 120k total on it, and the engine & drivetrain still feel like new. I use the power sparingly & don't deliberately abuse it, But it feels real good to know it's there if I need to stomp a PowerStroke or pull into merging traffic!

tschwab, I second the previously noted motion(s). You've just scratched the surface of your Cummins' power potential. But seriously, you've GOT to take that thing down off the jacks and DRIVE IT!!!! Have fun!

tschwab:

I agree with what Joe, danandme, Dennis
and fortunate 1 have already told you.

The TST plates have been in my truck
(#6 first, then #5) almost since it
was new. I now have almost 115,000 miles
on it with no problems AT ALL. I am here
to tell you that I run my truck hard but
take very good care of it. Personally,
I think these P7100 pumps are the best
pumps that were ever put on these engines.

Don't worry, they can take the addition
of the cam plate with no problem!

Thanks to all - I feel much better about my first baby bombing exercise #ad
The RAM will start accumulating more miles on it now, since my daughter will be getting her drivers license soon, and she will driving the wifes Honda, which means the wife will be driving the RAM #ad
I have a company vehicle, so I only get to drive the RAM on weekends.
