Hey everyone, I have Edge comp box on my 02 and love it. But I'm getting a TST pm3 in a trade and want to try it out. Wasn't planning on keeping it, but I was just curious, out of all those out there that have had both, which did you like better? I was planning on getting the Drag upgrade on the Comp, how would that effect this equation? I also heard that there is a competition upgrade on the TST, have I heard right?:confused: Don't know a whole lot about the TST, so I thought I would let those with more experience help out. I should have it at MCS diesel's second dyno day next weekend, so I'll try both for an even comparison. I'll let everyone know how it works out. Depending on the outcome I will have a chip that needs a new home... though, if its the TST, someone is already interested. Until then, looking forward to everyones opinion. :-{}

I have run both.

The Comp box kept failing-maybe 4 times.

Then had a chance to buy a used TST competition ( I think that is what the upgrade is called) and the TST is a more powerful box. I then added the Smarty, and think this is a great combo.

JFlagg,

A buddy has a truck almost identically modded like yours. He had the Edge Comp on but I persuaded him to try the TST/Smarty combo. WOW! The SOP meter was much happier with the TST/Smarty. No dyno #'s to prove anything, but simply driving & now sledpulling it seems better. If you go with this combo bigger sticks will give a bigger increase.

Yes, the TST can be upgraded to a twins program for more git/go.

Godspeed,
Trent

I new the TST was more stackable than the Comp, and I do plan on getting bigger injectors. I never was planning on stacking chips, but if everything is equal, the TST offers more future options, i. e. Smarty. I just wasn't sure, the TST website was rather vague, while when I got my Comp there product was explained better. I had a feeling the TST might win out in the thread, but I thought I would ask. I know the Comp does timing and fueling(depending on the level) does the TST do the same, or is it primarily one or the other? I've heard of people trying the Smarty on Comps with depressing results. I just want to go into this as educated as possible and not just try stuff and see what happens. I don't have enough money to do that;) Thanks guys, hope more info is posted.

As far as I know the TST does NOT give timing. The Edge comp does. Smarty does timing too. I think it has to do with the mixing of timing advance and boost fooling between the comp and smarty that creates the depressing results. I recommend Tst/smarty combo.

I haven't tried a TST, but I love my Drag Comp. I'm not sure where the TST backs off fueling... . anyone know? Also... . What numbers are the TST/Smarty putting down? Sorry for all the questions, but I saw a truck dyno last year at Reedsville with a edge comp/tst stack & he had better numbers using his comp. The comp had a much broader powerband than the tst too. I'm sure the Smarty would broaden the powerband on the TST..... maybe that is why they are working so well.

So, the TST fuels but no timing changes. Do any of the Comp settings just do timing? I know that on each sublevel on the comp that you go up, i. e. 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 5x1, 5x2, 5x3 etc. that my exhaust gets smokier. I'm assuming its more fuel each level, am I correct? I wish all the chips explained their settings as well as the Smarty, would make this alot easier. So, are there levels on the Comp that just alter timing, with no fueling changes? Or are all levels/ sublevels a combination of both? I'm getting great feedback, keep it up! Thanks guys! This is why I joined TDR.

I think that if you dont tap the pump wire it will only do timing... . like an ez. The nice thing is that you can still adjust it inside the cab. Whens the Dyno day at MCS... sat?

It was explained to me the TST will fuel until the the ecm defuels, if it don't defuel till 5000 the TST will still be fueling. I know my truck will pull its guts out to 3800 rpms with the smarty.

I run a Catcher with my TST Comp and its a nice setup, very brutal on the lowend, I did howevr just install Mach 6s so I had to take out the Catcher and use my Van Aaken, the Catcher works awesome with just the 6s, but with the TST I think its too much down low, I gotta do some more testing to figure out how im gonna run it, I do know that now ill see over 50 lbs of boost with the box turned past 3 so I keep it down till I do the head:) truck made 496/989 with stg 5 Jammers, Van Aaken and TST on 7.

A regular TST will defuel at 3000 RPM, the TST Competition fuels past redline.

this info comes from the FAQ on their website...

the biggest difference is that the tst does not add off boost fueling which is why the smarty works well with it. I think the top end fueling over the comp is hands down. I did however prefer the off boost fueling of the comp

You think it pulls now... . wait till you get that SS62 & M4's installed... WOW!

With everything in my sig. i might see 3800 and thats it. When i was at tst on the dyno it pulled it down to about 2500 rpm. I think i need a little more rpm. I dont even use my tst, only to play.

I called TST the other day and was told that the TST will start fueling at 2 psi boost all levels. This was different from what I thought I had observed.

What do you mean by?

NO off boost fueling
