I installed the PowerMaxCR (without integrated gauges) on my 05 today. It took me 2. 5 hours but I wasn't hurrying or anything.
The camshaft position sensor plug was a bit hard to get at so I undid the battery ground cable that was sort of in the way (as suggested) then I could reach it easier. All the rest of the plugs were pretty easy to get to.
Took me a while to find a place to put the in-cab remote control. There is a flat spot right beside the steering column on the left side which is about the exact size of the remote so I put it there. The wheel blocks your view of it a bit so you have to tilt your head a bit to see it but I don't reckon I'll be doing too much on the fly twiddling of it so it is fine. The instructions show it on the instrument panel between the tach and speedo but I didn't like it there and you'd have to reach through the wheel to adjust it.
The instructions also suggest routing the cable for the remote out thru the door (across the rubber) and then into the engine compartment. As if. Turns out there is hole with a rubber stopper in it on the firewall behind the clutch and I used that.
The 05s have a solenoid controlled waste gate. The TST comes with a little kit to do a modification. You remove the hose from the solenoid to the waste gate at the waste gate end and plug it. The kit has a plug and hose clamp for that. Then you put a new piece of hose on the waste gate with a a brass elbow fitting. From there you run a small plastic tube under the engine and to the intake manifold. You remove one of the manifold bolts and replace with a hollow bolt/fitting and connect the other end of the tube. Zip tie it here and there and that is that. That part took a while too, I had to remove my AFE tube which was in the way of getting to the waste gate.
Then I took her out for a spin and all I can is wow!
I put it on 4/3. For one thing it sounds a lot better and for the other thing it feels like a sports car. I did a little roll on test onto a freeway and the thing literally snaps your head back if you are not expecting it which I wasn't.
It was a big long sweeping ramp and I was stepping on it pretty good but nowhere near the floor when I noticed this Magnum I think it was right on my ***. We were moving pretty good and he wanted to get over to the left lane once we hit the freeway and take off. I wanted to keep up
When we got on the freeway he scooted over to the left as expected and we were neck and neck up to about 95 when I decided that I had made my point and let off.
The check engine light came on during that episode when I really put my foot in it. Code was P0608. I had driven a fair bit before that with no codes but never really stomped on it until then. Anybody ever got that one and know what it means? Code reader said ECM Fault but that doesn't tell me much of anything. Doesn't seem to affect anything. The thing goes like the proverbial bat out of hell, raped ape, scalded dog, and whatever else you want to call it.
I cleared it and will test some more tomorrow. Gauges don't go on until Monday so I don't want to mess around too much but I'll see if I can make that code come back.
Anyway... good mod!
