TST milage

I recieved the 2004. 5 CTD in April and added the Banks exhaust (which I think was a waste). I started getting 14-15mpg. I have 10k miles on my truck now. Each month my milage seems to have gotten better by a mile per gallon. I installed the TST a month ago. The power is awesome. I run it mostly on 3/3 or 4/4. I feel pretty sure the first time I make an interstate run of 300 miles or so I could expect 22-23 mpg. I will say till that I die that the 4. 10 gear is the best for this truck.

About the Banks exhaust. I ordered this exhaust before I ever took possession of the truck. Banks told me it had 3. 5" from turbo to muffler. When I got the truck it had 4" all the way. The factory has done a great job on the exhaust. If I had it to do over again I would simply install a good quality high flow muffler.

I agree the factory exhuast is good. I wish I had left mine alone except for a donaldson. Your mileage is the highest I have heard of for a 600. I take it is hand figured and controlled at the same pump everytime. If you are driving 65-70 with thoses numbers and city and idleing included you might consider yourself the luckiest man to own a ctd.

Is this hand calculated over at least an tank of fuel?

The overhead is usually only a reference, but when you throw a box at it, it goes totally berzerk!

These MPG posts and the overhead readings kinda remind me of a 70 something Monte Carlo a buddy of mine had. It had a huge gage, the same size and right beside the speedo. Same sweep too, like 270 degrees. It had (going by memeory) a color scale an some text something like "economy" and "bad economy" LOL. It was only too obvious that it was nothing more than a vacuum gage :-laf

Our overheads usually aren't much better! Mine reads 21 something and haven't reset is in months. Hand calculation shows maybe 16 on a good day.

milage

All of my calculations have been by hand. My overhead most of the time was reading about 3-4 mpg slower than my hand figures. When I had the computer re-flashed about 2 months ago it raised those figures to within about 1. 5-2 mpg.
