Installed TST Today in my 600

Where do they get their ideas?

Just installed TST this weekend. Had a couple codes @ first. AutoZone cleared for free. Plugged everything back in and know I can't get the smile off of my face. Question is what setting are you using around town / playing.

I've only tried up to 5/5 for short bursts. Thoughts on hole shots?

I have the new software. Hope evryone is having as much fun with this product as I am.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is TST:confused: ? What is an Edge box? I have a stock 2001 6-speed, and plan to stay stock (or close) until warranty issues are gone:rolleyes: , but want more power:cool: .

Fitch- The newer boxes like you have are much more smoother in power with reports saying that 8/8 is about as aggresive as levels 4/4-5/5 on the older boxes. I run my box (first box out for the 600's. ) on 5/5 daily w/o a single problem. Ive torched off some 8/8 and 9/9 runs just to make all the people around me take off running!

PAbernathy- On our newer trucks the TST is an electronic box that gives us more power by altering some of the stock parts/hardware. On your 01 you can do somewhat of the same thing with an Edge chip, TST... There are many diffrent things you can do to these motors to make them really run. I would say get an Edge EZ or Comp with some good injectors and an exhaust and intake. But most importantly get a set of gauges (pyrometer, Boost at least).

Future Plans for More Power

Howdy, and thanks for a quick reply. I am planning on gauges first (EGT, Boost, FP), then BHAF (AFE is my first choice, unless the FASS is needed due to bad FP), then FASS, then maybe something for fueling (injectors, and I think this is where the Edge EZ would fit in). Exhaust will probably wait until the stock needs replacement.

I am reluctant to do too much yet because of my warranty (used vehicle, 36,000 mile dealer warranty). So, I am trying to understand what I can do to increase my power and fuel mileage, without "becoming my own warranty station" :eek: if/when something goes wrong :{

"I am my own warranty" That's what I say now. :D

 I am not as willing to accept risk on a used vehicle as I would one one that I had maintained myself.

BTW, how does a TST (or in my case, possibly a future Edge EZ) affect warranty if at all?

My plans include 80 or 100 hp inj. with a B1 turbo of some configuraration, and not running the TST over about 5/5-6/6 because I think that even with the increaced timing I still think that there is a little to much post injction timing combined with alot of valve overlap for emmision control that is making the high EGT's. These factors IMHO are what is hard on our motors/parts on the higher levels.

Tst

I run my box on 3/3 for every day driving and towing. I dynoed on 4/4 at 414 HP and 753 tq. 4/4 may be at the limit of the stock turbo and trans. The stock torque converter has to high stall . The only time I got codes was when I changed the box settings while driving. P0606 and P0336 . The dealer said they would go away after 50 cycles . This is a box you need to use restraint with. With a different turbo and trans. mods and a different torque converter the power can be turned up.

I guess I am babying mine. I keep it off, until the truck is fully warmed up, then mostly run 3x3, with some playing at up to 7x7. I am letting the pedal up when my FP hits 3 and have not had any stumbling. I have not done any full off the line launches, since I am still breaking in the new clutch. Just rolling into it, from a moving start. No egt issues as yet, even on the 7x7 runs. Highest I have seen is a little over 1200. It comes down real quick. Lotsa smoke on 7, but it cleans up as soon as the boost comes up. Must... . have... . fuel... . pump.

jengle; that is suprising that your smoke clears up with boost, mine on 7/7 WILL smoke like a freight train at WOT. it Never clears up! BTW It feels stronger on 7/7 than it is on9/9( running out of fuel)

Thanks guys. I'm running around on 5/5. You never know when you might need that extra power :-laf ! Seems like everyone has different release boxes. Mine will also clear up after boost drops on higher settings. I've punched it once on 9/1 and egt jumped to 1450 even though I have it set @ 1350. Also noticed egts drop just as quick when letting off. Noticed on 5/5 I can kick truck sideways. Makes me want my Roadrunner back.

I have been running mine on 5/2 and today turned it up to 6/2. Still have no EGT issues, but they are all pretty short bursts. Smoke clears up after a bit.

I did notice that the tq setting dosen't seem to make much of a difference in the butt dyno, personally.

Yeah, it does a good job of clearing up and the EGTs stay below 1300, usually about 1200. As soon as I lift the throttle, it drops to below 1k fast. I'm still playing, can run as long as I want on 5x5 with no issues, FP drops to about 3-4, but no stumbling, or decel knock that others have had. 7x7 has some go, but can't stay on it longer than a few seconds. 5x5 doesn't smoke, maybe a light haze, but it sure goes. Gotta get a pump on there.

CI, I bet it does make a difference, I can really tell if I slowly add throttle from low speed in about 3rd or 4th gear. You will feel it slowly accelerating, then the TST comes on and it will start to really pull. Not as noticable if you dump the throttle on the gear change. By playing the throttle, I can feel the box additions at both ends of the rpm range. If I dump it all at once, it kind of gets lost, since it revs up so quick.

You want the truth? It tosses it out the window. Follow the thread 'Bad News Turbo' elsewhere in this forum, to see someone who lost a turbo with an EZ attached. No official news yet, but I suspect they're going to deny warranty coverage because they suspect that a box was installed.

Now, that turbo may have let go with the engine in stock form - or it may have been due to the additional strain that the EZ put on it. No one will ever know. Bottom line - if you want to play, be prepared to eat the cost of some repairs.

WCounts,

I also run my box on 3/3 for daily driving. On 3/3 was 360hp@630tq. I had the TST elbow and was only making 30lbs of boost. When I tried 4/4 my HP went up but TQ went down. I was suspect of low fuel pressure or defuled from Temp? I do not have fuel pressure guage yet.

Do you know what you were making for boost on your 4/4 dyno run? I would have thought mine would have made close to 700Tq on 3/3 based on what it made HP?

Thanks, Jeff

Boost

JPereira

My boost settles at 32 psi on 3/3 and 4/4. I don't see much use going any higher till I change the converter.
