Truck Manufacturers Agree To New Rating Standard

Frisco to Colorado Springs

I need to upgrade my hitch. I want to get a 10,000 lb version. I am used to the round bar, but was wonder which is "best" ? Shadrach

I Have used Reese round bars with the dual cam sway bars and they are great. Called and talked to areese rep and he said they will work with any of their bars. You have to use the second method when using the round bars. boy do they help with sway in the wind, would not tow without them.

Trunnion bars wear at the hitch if they are used heavily, at Both the hitch and the bar ends. I have 100,000 miles on mine and need to buy new.

I would say that's an acceptable wear rate! My OEM receiver didn't even last 10K miles of towing, and my brothers is following the same fate.

Thanks guys. My TT is about 7500 lbs wet and the truck the same, so not heavy by todays standards. I'll have to make the set up that came with the trailer do for now. Shadrach

Before you jump, you might take a look at the Hensley Straight Arrow - - -Yes it is expensive, but there is nothing else to compare it with. We have had ours for 3 years now, and would not consider swapping it. Find Hensley on line and get their DVD. One other Mfb sez their hitch is just like a Hensley - - But it Ain't

I am with C. D. Day. I wouldn't trade my Hensely hitch for anything else that is made. It cost more but what price is safety. It took all the sway & semi whipping out of my trailer. It now pulls straight as an arrow. I have had it for 9 or 10 years. The reason I bought the Hensely was the Reese Dual Sway Cam would not keep trailer straight. Holiday Rambler tried to get it to work & they finally suggested the Hensely.

I am also a Hensley user, a very good hitch by any standard. If I had to do it over again I would opt for the ProPride P3. It is a direct competitor of the Hensley and has some upgrades over the Hensley like the larger receiver box, adjustable stinger and the mount on the trailer tongue is far simpler in my opinion. The P3 also costs less.

I talked to Hensley today and while I agree it is a great hitch system but as a person who only pulls on vacation it is way out of my price league. Actually I like the Pulrite set up because of the angle you can turn with it, but again it is too much $ for me. Shadrach

The equalizer offers a 18" shank that allows me to turn at least 80° (haven't tried further), far enough to easily scare the wife!

I have a buddy that went past 90° and kissed the side of his tundra with his TT and still wasn't at the limit of the hitch.

The 18" shank also allows for you to drop the tailgate at any vehicle/TT angle, something I have noticed isn't possible with some other hitches and shank lengths.

I got a price on the Pullrite today. It too was over $3k. I now have a Reece shank that is longer than my old one and that will help. Shadrach

That is the hitch I have. Have had it since 1999. NO SWAY & NO PROBLEMS with the hitch. If you are having control problems pulling your trailer they are great & well worth the money.
