Tube flaring set

Can someone recommend a reasonably priced tube flaring set? I have searched a bit and the prices range from ultra cheap $20 range to skies the limit, the latter will put me in the doghouse. Looking for something in the $50-100 range, +/-. I would like to be able to flair the 5/8 trans. cooler lines too, any recommendations appreciated.

I bought one at the local Fred Meyers (similar to Wal-mart just not as big a company) that is a fairly robust, no name unit. I don't believe that you need to spend 50-100 bucks on this kind of tool. I don't remember the brand name of the one I've got, but it has been used on fuel lines and transmission lines with no problem. It's not exactly a high tech type of tool that needs a lot of precision built in. I would recommend that you save yourself some beer money and buy a cheaper priced one. JMHO

45* flare and bubble flare kits are cheap to find/get. . now, finding a 37* flare kits is much harder, and they are always more $$$ [37* is JIC/AN flare angle]



rigid makes some great flare tools. .

and if you find one which is ecentric, it deburrs as it flares, so it saves you a step

I had a Harbor Freight one and also used another cheapo one that my roomate had. I got ****** with them and bought a decent Matco one. Was around $50 I believe and has worked great since.

I got another used Snap On one free from work not too long ago that I gave to my brother, but it was just about the same exact thing as my Matco one. I'm sure it was 2x the price knowing how Snap On is too.

nickleinonen, your onto something there! I don't think a lot of people know the difference in flare types, or maybe they do but don't care. The 37* is a better flare, there is a difference and for good reasons too. I appreciate the posts regardless of your opinions folks. I think of all the sites I sifted thru at Google I found what I wanted at my old stand-by, McMaster-Carr. You get to see several tools all together and choices of the different flare angles too. Great info there alone, tubing, pipe, fittings and the specs. You could nearly build the space shuttle from that site...

Keep in mind that your brake lines are a 45* double flare.
