I've had the Dodge Mopar black tube side steps on a 1500 at work for 4 years. They are the straight tube with some brackets that bolt to tbe underbody. They hold firm... but the attach points on the body are rather cheapo and flimsy in my opinion but they do hold I guess. They use these little wing nuts that go into a big hole and do a minimal job at making good body contact in my opinion.

Anyhow... who in the aftermarket makes the best (in your opinion) tubular side steps? This is in regard to body attachment and style. I don't want ones that have cheap metal supports everywhere and a bunch of holes that need drilled. Maybe direct bolt on like OEM but better perhaps?

Plus the OEM ones are right next to the door sill and you can barely get your foot on them when stepping out. In the rain... you have to be VERY careful.

I still swear by my WAAG nerfs. They are 7 years old now and are showing signs of rust (Amazing 7 years being I live in the North east salt kingdom) And have been the strongest I have yet to ever have. The attachment points are stronget than the bars themselves I feel. They look like the ones below but have silver step pads. I have them tucked up high so they can not touch down before the frame when the going gets lumpy, muddy, rocky and cruddy.

Now Signal73 got a set of DeeZee's I think and when we put them on his truck I was very impressed with the beef incorporated in their mounting system.

I have westin off my truck now I put the electric up and down step but the Westin mounted off the body cab mounts and then two small sheet metal screws they where very strong. I would recommend them. Ed

I would very, very strongly advise against Smittybuilt. I call them s**tybuilt because they totally rusted out in 4 years.
