hmmm
Well, marketing is marketing. It's a shame most sheeple don't know to take this stuff with a grain of salt.
One irrefutable fact of life: NOTHING is ever as good or as bad as it seems.
Brandon, good job on your pull. That's a victory that no one can take anything away from you on.
If you look closely at the pics in the "article", it seems the ONLY real smoke "belcher" is the old Ford. All the rest of the trucks, Ford and Dodge, seemed to be fairly clean. The ATS trucks didn't seem to be "belching" smoke to me.
Furthermore Banks is taking advantage of people who don't know better by flashing around the 325 HP/700+ lb-ft numbers. A CTD can make that and then some with just DD3s and an EZ- no fueling box! It won't "belch" smoke either. Add a (drag?) Comp and it's ALL over.
I am continually amazed by the Cummins in three areas:
1) how well it tolerates abuse
2) how EASY it is to crank up the wick
3) how CHEAP it is to make decent numbers.
Think of this: I can make my truck have 700-800 lb ft with just DD3 and EZ, and the total cost is less than $1000!!!
When I build the big block for my '69 Coronet, it's going to cost about $5K just to make 500-600-lb ft!
Could it be that the Cummins is the best VALUE (bang for the buck) in all of hot-rodding? Does hypertech make a 120 Hp "chip" for the Mustang or Camaro? I think not. To get the 100HP+ that an edge comp or DD3's will give you (for <$750) in a gasser muscle car, you are looking at at LEAST $3500. (Paxton/vortech/etc) Nitrous? Maybe when they come up with a 100HP system that never runs out...
Even against other diesels, the CTD seems to be the hot rod of choice. Look at the price of injectors for a DMAX or PSD and you will know what I mean.
Banks is a good man. Banks products are good (but overpriced) products. Personally, I can't fault the company for trying to sell its stuff. Yay, capitalism I say. Marketing to me is about trying to cast your product in the best possible light IN AREAS THAT ARE OPEN TO INTERPRETATION (i. e. a toothpaste that leaves your breath the "freshest"). I have a serious problem, however, when facts are either distorted or intentionally left out to LEAD someone to a false conclusion. As it's been said-- a half truth is a whole lie.
Sory for the sermon. . I am feeling just wonderfully grabasstic.
