P245a/245c after EGR and cooler cleaning

Valve Body

I have an 08 6.7 auto 4x4 with 165000 apparently non of the EGR service was done, I replaced the filter and am going to clean the cooler this week.

Ask me how i know this? well turns out my CEL light is burnt out... I had an issue out of town and limped it home and pulled codes history and have been driving around monitoring what i can with a basic code reader. I got the P0489 code and P245C, also my truck was a fleet and i went back over the maintenance records and the emissions system was never serviced.

So The turbo appears to be working properly and the CCV is only 3 k old I am cleaning the cooler and the EGR valve this week, I am going to give it a few thousand miles to give m a warm fuzzy but..... if not i am going to pull the EGR and DPF.

My research shows the mini max is no longer a viable option. I am new to the diesel world so doing and learning TONS!

I want simplicity above all! start the truck and let it warm up and drive, that said I have had hot rods and customs but this is my weekend driver, so I am looking for the easiest delete solution. I don't need to add more power (better economy would be nice). I am more interested in reliability and low maintenance.

I like what i have read about the smarty but... seems like allot of options and settings and things for me to screw up. like I said simplicity... so my question is, What is the easiest/simplest/most reliable delete option, and the safest option after doing the delete I understand the "fuel map" needs to be altered to account for the loss of the DPF.

Thanks for the information in advance!!!!

Sorry to say, but you may find it difficult to get a response to the "how to delete" question.
Your best bet is to do research back to the wild days of yesteryear and see what worked best for the audience. Then you'll have to see if the tuner-dude is still in business as many have run afoul (literally) of the EPA.

With all of the latest stuff in the press, it is impossible to say who is watching who, what or where. If you can find a vendor that you trust, a telephone conversation may be your best option.

In today's world there really isn't an up side to the direction you are headed. There were lots of software updates for 2007-2008 trucks and having the latest flash will make the truck operate with the least chance of problems. There were also changes to the EGR valve and the new version of the valve is much better than the original valves. Also dirty/worn injectors can generate too much soot that the system is not designed to handle. So the best route may be clean everything up, get the latest software, confirm the EGR valve does not need to be replaced, and drive the truck.

Since you are off-road use.. try this path:

Get the ultragauge for about $70 so you can monitor things like regen (Cat Temps) and engine trouble codes..

http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/

Once you do this, un-plug the EGR connector, you'll have constant CEL, and code P0405 (EGR system). The truck will run fine, CEL becomes engine ON indictor, ultragauge will provide the code, you then suspend alarms for that trouble code, any other code will alarm the ultragauge so you won't be blind other engine trouble codes. Also a burnt out CEL is no longer an issue, ultragauge will monitor and even let you clear codes when applicable.

You'll then see about 2-3MPG better and with less EGR, less soot and other issues.. I have tried this from a recommendation and it works well. Also if needed you can plug EGR back in, and all is back to normal... just unplug, tape over the connector to keep it clean and isolate the pins, plug partly back on, hold with electrical tape to seal and keep clean.

Some have gone a step further to eliminate EGR valve leak by with a freeze plug of blank flange on the valve body itself.. but that might be going overkill in my mind, though if always and forever off-road, might be worth it.

From all I've seen EGR does nothing good for efficiency, it only reduces NOx emissions.. a far my better path is by limited driving use, so low miles, or off-road weekend use as you propose really does more to reduce emissions anyway, keeping the DPF is good because you won't be "rolling coal" like some idiots that intentionally smoke people out and make life difficult for all diesel owners, really that smoke is uncalled for in any case and just rude.
