Does anyone know what I should do if I have a truck with deletes and gauges a tune but no tuner? I bought it this way and want to get rid of the tune that is there and put the stock on it, without voiding warranty, in Dodge's system. Then get my own tuner and tunes

Does that make sense?

Mike,

Please explain. I thought that once the factory software load was altered it was lost forever. How do you reprogram the ECM back to OEM?

It is my understanding that the Starscan that the dealer uses supercedes any programmer when writing/re-writing.

Yeah, before I would take that as gospel I would consider a 2nd opinion. They might be write or just totally incompetent at running their tools. A dealer SHOULD be able to overwrite what is there unless there is a problem with the ECU itself.

Well, without going into great detail, they were trying to "help a brother out". It is all sorted out now and hopefully, I will be back on the road this week.

Harvey, Most aftermarket programmers use a factory program to base there modified program on. They take a factory program and overlay it with their data. When you install a up-rated program into your vehicle it is programmed to pull the factory program out and store it in the programming module and then install the up-rated program into your ECM. They do that so that when you go back to return it to stock the OEM program is still stored in the programming module and can be reinstalled in your vehicle. Since most of the programs are based on and use Factory programs to start with I am able to reprogram it with out the original program being in the ECM.

Yep, I agree.

I would never buy a used late model Ram unless a diesel tech like my friend Mike Mullenax ran a diagnostic on it and could assure me it has never been reprogrammed with an aftermarket programmer or altered with any aftermarket parts or tuners.
