Hey guys, I am brand new to tdr so bear with me. Ihave an 01 quad cab 4x4

that has never been messed with. not for long. I am looking for input on the best tuner based on price and best function. (best bang for the buck). Any input would be appreciated. By the way I work for peterbilt and we are a cummins supplier. cheap goodies!!!!!

The Edge comp is proven and works great even though there are newer and different styles of tuners. You can buy one in the classifieds at a really good price. Even if you try another, it can be stacked with some others. I still like mine.

I will give you the best piece of advice available..... do the fuel system upgrade first & get a fuel pressure gauge on there. We all learned the hard way... . by replacing the vp44 injection pump due to lack of fuel supply. The fass systems are nice as are Air Dogs... ... very good systems, but pricey. You can usually pick up a Edge Comp in the classifieds fairly cheap these days..... best bang for the buck!

Welcome to the TDR. Horsepower is addictive beware!! :-laf

Imo the Smarty programmer is the best thing i have done as far as boxes\tuners. I got mine day before yesterday and im truly impressed. It also depend on how much power you want to make. The smarty is rated around 60 hp but the way it goes about getting there is SWEET.

Fill out you signature so we know what model truck, trans, mods and so forth. It helps people give educated info.

Yes, work on the fuel system and at the very least have a pressure gauge on there. I love my Edge Comp that has been on my truck for 12x,xxx miles. They are good but if I was doing it again I would probably add injectors first and then add either a Comp or a SMARTY. The comp is great because it can be adjusted on the fly and is small and can be hidden in the ashtray.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Juice w/Att. He would get the gauges for his stock truck... .

Good point..... sometimes in my head I think that these trucks already have gauges & don't even think of them... . DUH! Dude..... you'll need gauges! The Juice is also a good choice if you don't have gauges, but make it a Hot Juice.
