I have been reading all I can about twins and the only thing I haven't come acrossed is how to tune twins.

I am looking to do twins for towing. I want to build my own set of twins to add to the "I made them file". I have the fabrication skills and work shop to do the work. So,,,,,,,,

How are twins tuned.

Is the overall boost controlled by the external waste gate on the small charger?

Or,

Do you set the waste gate for the small charge to open when the large charge starts to lite off and control the over all boost by the waste gate in the large charger?

How do you tune your twins?

I am in the process of doing just that to a set of B1/B2 twins built by Mark Kendrick for my truck. On this setup the waste gate (adjustable) controls the boost going from the small turbo to the large turbo for the final boost numbers. We adjusted the waste gate with a air pressure source set a 60 psi so we have so base when we get it running. Just awaiting silicon boots from Jannetty Racing and we are set to go. One last thing waste gate faces the back of the engine and way under cowl on my setup-gonna be one big hot PITA to adjust. :D

So would you say that having a wastegate on the large charger would be a waste of time?

Any plans of running an in cab boost regualtor??

Do you have any pics?

Yes... . you will have to work the little turbo harder unless you have lots of fuel.

The pics have a file size that is too big to post here. I can't figuire out how to shrink them to fit. I don't believe waste agting the larger turbo would work to well as the smaller one spools up quickand is feeding the larger so for efficiency the wategate would work better on the first or smaller one. Why would you want to be able to control waste gate from inside cab. Once you find out the best boost for your injectors to get you the best pull/most hp/quickest 11/4 mile you would not change it unless something else changes.

Jim, looking at your pics,, I was wondering what wastegate you are using? And would you use it again?

BillGotthelf, I would like to have in cab adjustability for the tuning process only. I feel it would be easyer than make a several trips under the hood.

I am planing on using my HY-35/9 with a BHT3B/??.

Also looking into exterinal wastegates. Any sugestions?

The reason for using the HY-35/9 is to keep the quick boost, and I have one.

Depends on how much power you want to make. With the hx35/9 the air temp is going to be high going into the HT3. Higher air temps+lower power and higher egts. You would have to wastegate to lower pressure 50-55 maybe to keep max power.

As for power I am currently 383 hp and 799 tq. I would like to see better than 430hp and 920 tq that would better than double the factory flywheel rating.

Having all the power is good. Being able to use all the power is GREAT!!

I would like to run boost around 45-50 PSI. looking for cool EGTs.

Yes I would use it again, nice piece of gear for the price.

http://64.225.76.178/main.htm is the sister company for turbonetics, turboneticsinc.com has a big 2 inch wastegate but I don't think you would need it, and it is most likely expensive.

Sweet, sounds and looks good... ... still waiting here, I wonder if it will ever happen, guess I made a bad timing decision selling the old Twins... ... such is life. I have all the stuff for a controller like yours also so I can adjust for different dyno's.

26 Housing for the 3B, 23's work allot better on the bottom but don't have it on top... ... just depends on what you want. The 3B is no miracle turbo it just works and is cheap.

Jim

What I am hoping for is a system that will allow me to use the power I have and not worry about the EGT gauge.

so the 26 would be more for drag racing or sled pulling and the 23 for towing?

I have tried the 23cm. It was ok on the bottom end, but i did find that drive pressure went up to much. I feel that if you go from a single entree to a divided you have alot of disturbance at the opening. I went back to a 26cm single and have been happy since.
