I got codes P003A and P00AF today and after doing some research leads me to believe my turbo actuator is on the fritz. I read the instructions on the City Diesel actuator and it says to cycle the gear to make sure it moves before ordering cause it can’t be returned. Problem is, in order to cycle the gear you need to drain the coolant, remove the inner fender and take the actuator off. I still need to use the truck for work every day and the exhaust brake does work after I deleted the codes. I’m thinking since the brake works after I deleted the codes, the gear still moves freely. Am I wrong in thinking this? If the gear was stuck, the brake wouldn’t work at all right?

Yes if it is stuck the engine brake would not work. Give city diesel a call they will walk you through why your throwing codes. I’ve got their unit in my 2013 and so far I’m very happy with it.

I read some of your posts on a different thread, that’s where I got the City Diesel info from. Thanks! I’m calling City Diesel on Monday, hopefully they have some in stock as Genos is backordered til 3-31.

I'd personally go with the certified reman from M&D. You get the whole actuator assembly. The arm in my actuator had a small amount of play when I replaced mine. You'd have to reuse it with the City Diesel half shell.
City Diesel is still unproven in the long run and costs more than twice as much for half of a part.

It has to be calibrated. I used the Alpha OBD app on my phone, it literally takes less than a minute. Very straight forward. I think I screen shot the steps in a thread on here that I created.
Tramp if you don't have Alpha OBD I'd highly recommend buying one. I know you have had issues with your after treatment system and have had Todd do a number of stationary desoots, you can do this with the Alpha app right in your own driveway. Among many other functions. It's an amazing diagnostic tool to have.

Thanks! Looking into the Alpha now.

I did a little reading and I keep seeing android mentioned and nothing about iPhone. I can only assume alpha does not work with Apple products? We have all apple products. Does that mean for me to use alpha I’d have to buy an android tablet or something similar? I’m not real electronics savvy so I really don’t know how everything works.

I have it running on my windows laptop.

It does not show up in my App Store. When I click on that link, it brings me to it and I can’t go any further. My wife has an HP laptop that runs windows. Since TMyers has it on his, I’m assuming I can get it on hers. If I can get it to work on hers, what else do I need to connect it to the truck? Like I said, I really know nothing about electronics.

Do I need one of these to go with the Alphaobd?

I have the one you listed. You can save a few bucks and get the original MX if you only intend to use it on your truck or other equal year and older vehicles. The MX can link to other vehicles up to a certain model year. The MX + covers up to current model years and a new vehicle is in our future so I opted for the MX+.

OBDLink MX Bluetooth OBD-II Automotive Scan Tool for Android and Windows Amazon product ASIN B006NZTZLQ

Just to be clear, the Alpha app is for FCA vehicles only. The OBD MX/MX+ has it's own app and can connect to multiple vehicle manufacturers including our trucks, but is more of a general diagnostic tool. The Alpha app connects to the truck using the OBD dongle and allows you to connect to the truck and command vehicle specific functions like stationary desoot, changing high idle speed, turbo actuator calibration, tpms adjustments, etc.

I would get the + for possible newer vehicles. Found out the Alfaobd is not compatible with windows on my wife’s hp laptop. Not sure what to do.
