You'll be at the upper limits if nt over on a Piers HX35. I would look into the Piers HX40 over his 35. And of course theres always Kurt's B1..... your already way out of your effciency map on your HY, I think piers HX40 is wastegated around 40psi. The B1 doesn't need a wastegate..... yet
I am unsure about a ebrake on the B1 , i don't have one. I know when people goto HX40's they use a remote 4" BD exhaust brake..... I think yogibear might have an exhaust brake with his B1. I would give Piers a call on Monday and discuss it with him. You could also call Kurt on Monday as well. I know from experience the B1 is fun..... the Piers HX40 i don't have any experience with. but I do have a PDR HX35... . which is why I know you'll be at its upper limits if you want to run that much boost, when I have the PDR HX35 on I can peg the EGT gauge, with the B1 I don't think I have been able to peg it yet that I know of. Regardless which turbo you get they will both be of high quality and perform great as well.
I've got the BD 4", supposed to be remote, but SlowKwurt managed to get it mounted on the down pipe, about 4-5" below the B 1. I hate to admit it on here, his head is big enough, but he did a he!! of a nice job, and it works great.
Running your HY35 to 45 psi is part of your problem. Your spinning that turbo much faster then its effciency map. Basically your spinning it "superfast" and heating up your intake air... . which overall actually hurts you. With the small turbo your going to have EGT trouble with the add ons you have. You will still have trouble with EGT's if you goto a PDR Hx35.
A PDR HX40 or Kurt's B1 will help in this problem... ..... The B1 is more exspensive then the PDR HX40..... but its kinda in its "own" class..... its not fair to compair the two actually. With the B1 I can't get over 1300° unless I am in Level IV or V on my COMP... and then it peaks. . then drops... . by then I am going way too fast... .
The PDR HX40 has a 4" outlet, and the B1 has a 4. 5" outlet. I've taken my B1 to the strip once so far and beaten the heck out of it. . and its still going. From my understanding the B1 is a great towing turbo..... it just happens to do fairly well hotrodding for me since I don't tow... I needed the durabilty it provides.
Once you get a turbo that moves some air..... your truck will feel like a whole new truck.
SEmerson---no 4. 5" pipe or muffler that I know of--but you get an adapter that goes from the B1 to a 4" pipe, you need to cut and weld ----also HVAC is getting downpipes made up for the B1, so you'll be able to slap it on any 4" exhaust with relative ease---I'd say with the B1 that you need at least a 4" exhaust system ..... chris
When we are talking the size of the outlet diameter I assume we are talking pipe size? When I measure the outlet diameter of an HX-40 it was 3-5/8" and I thought the ID of the outlet bore of the B1 was 4". Correct me if I'm wrong though.
