I am getting ready to install both an Autometer boost and an pyro egt gauges on my '89 CTD in a dual A pillar pod. I've seen the post on the pyro sensor install but can not find anything on installing the port for the boost gauge. Does the '89 have a test port on the intake that can be used? If so where is it.

I am getting my gauges installed before I start on more modifications to the engine and a transmission swap.

This truck has 300,000 miles on it. Am I wasting my time and money rebuilding and modifing it? Or should I just sell it and go with a early 12 valve second generation CTD? I've had this truck since 1991 and would hate to see it go.

Thanks.

The boost gauge port is in the middle lengthwise on the side of my intake. It just had a pipe plug in it. 1/8" if I remember right. Too bad there isn't a port already there for the pyro too. :D

On non-intercooled engines I think you need to drill and tap a port in the intake manifold. The later intercooled models have a port so you don't need to drill and tap.

If I remember right, there should be instructions on what you need to do at www.dieselpage.com.

You don't have to drill..

My 89 had a plug in the same place as the other series of trucks. I just had to remove the throttle cable bracket that was held on by the intake bolts for the intake horn. The plug is 1/8 NPT and has a hex-key head to it. The it will require some careful bending of the tubing to make the 90° turn behind the bracket or you can drill through the bracket to let the tubing through.

Good luck. .

Thanks guys. I had to pull the throttle cable mount off today as I had a injector tube leaking and I found the port on the intake manifold.

I think I will drill a hole in the mount and use a 1/8" pipe nipple to extend out for the tubing to connect to so it would be easier to pull the bracket off if need be.
