Its getting warm where I live and sometimes have to sit for minutes for the turbo to cool down with only stop and go driving around town. 90f today. How do you guys in hotter areas deal with slow turbo cooling?

When its -40f up here its done in about 3 seconds.

I know it can be a pain but i just let the truck cool down longer. After the bhaf and 4" straight pipe it cools down much faster. I can get it down to 300 in a min or two.

One thing you might want to consider, is adding some type of shut down device. ISSPRO has a Turbo Temp Monitor (TTM) that will monitor the turbo temp and shut down the engine at 300deg. You can safely remove your key, lock her up and go about your business. The TTM will do the rest.

There are also other products out there that act as timers. You just set the duration of time and it shuts down. I personally like the TTM because I know that it will run only as long as needed.

If you have any questions give me a call.

One thing that helps is to turn off the air conditioner a couple of minutes before you park. Cool down is noticeably faster.

I have a clifford alarm that has an auto start and also a remote shutdown, works great, I get where I am going, hit the turbo shut down and take the key out, it shuts down 3 minutes later. .

I'll throw in a second vote for turning the AC off. My truck will drop to about 330 pre-turbo and then stick there with the AC on. In order to get to 300 the AC as got to be off.

Didn't even think about the AC. I'll have to do that.

I've been thinking about a turbo timer of sorts. Though sometimes I hate looking like a retard and letting it run for a few minutes around quiet places. Non-diesel people just don't understand, they just see you as a jerk that lets their noisy smoke wagon running. Forget them, I'll run it.

Fully 4" exhaust and I rarely have to wait for a cool down time. Unless I was running HARD right before I stop, I am cool before I need to get out of the truck.

I make it a habit to drive easy the last 1/2 mile though, so that helps.

I agree with the previous guys, as I approach my home, I shut down the a/c or defrost(same thing), kick it into nuetral at a distance I can coast in, my truck only takes about 30-45 seconds to get down to 350-375 degrees... . sounds like overkill but I do not want to hurt anything and I get home at wee hours in morning...

Turbo cool down timer

Just installed mine a couple of weeks ago, works like a charm.

Give Howard a shout

I live in a gated community. When I go through the gate I put the auto into 2nd. As I drive the mile home (25 mph) the engine speed is higher, the air flow is beter and often (even on the 98* day today) when I pull into the driveway, put it in park, put up the windshield sun shade, the pre turbo temp is at or below 300*. I always let it cool to 300* regardless of where I am.

I've found that at 400* to 500* post turbo, from idle a light blip of the throttle helps bring the temps down faster.
