Ok, a few weeks ago I installed the complete monster exhaust that replaces the cast elbow downpipe and all. I now have this "flutter/sputtering" noise while accelerating fairly hard. Not always but seems to always be there if I start to get over say 15-18lbs of boost. I can actually see the boost gage fluctuate some very quickly while the noise is present.

I am hoping this is normal and that I can now hear it because the heavy cast elbow is gone and the exhaust is free flowing.

Is this correct or do I need to get it looked at. Truck runs great, just a wierd noise.

thanks

i got the same thing too with the killer b turbo and it didn't always do it. It just used to whine and whistle very nicely. Eventually though it started becoming more and more frequent. I don't think one can ever get totally away from it. I have learned to drive around mine pretty good for the most part. I was debating on getting one of those tag devices to see if that helped. I have been wondering the same thing you are wondering for a while now. Does it do it when your transmission shifts to od sometimes also? Sometimes mine does it really bad i let off because that's the natural reaction and that only makes it worse. If u keep going through it with pedal it doesn't seem to bother it. I heard a certain noise and i emailed paul at htt because in this video of the banks truck i heard it also http://www.atsdiesel.com/Video/TruckFest03/SidewinderStage_A9_20030729_1.MOV

listen to it at the end of it and tell me if you ever get that noise. I have it excessively at times. I had lazr bob redo my tank's flow to the fass pump and it's a lot more less common i can say that. Do you ever get that noise there when u get your fluttering?

anyone else experience this noise? those with exhausts that replace the cast elbow? I am sure the noise was there to begin with, just couldn't hear it as well.

thanks guys

I had it really bad but then i took and had the fass pump quick connect bipassed. I had lazr bob plumb a new fitting in the tank and man it's amazing the pump is quiet and not only that I lost over 90% of that fluttering sound

You know, I have no idea. I am going to have a couple local diesel guys listen this weekend if I can get ahold of them. Thay are really into these trucks and they post on here quite a bit. I have already had a few other folks listen and all have a different opinion of what is causing it.

Before I replaced the cast elbow, I could actually here a little valve clatter noise right before it shifted and I am really thinking this sound is a direct result of that. I almost sounds as though it is exhaust pulses hitting inside the banks downpipe since it is stainless steel and not that heavy cast elbow. I also notice the boost gauge fluctuates just a little right inline with the noise while it is there. The truck runs great and its probably nothing.

Thanks guys.

Look into the turbo airguide it does quiet down turbo whine and improve turbo efficiency talk to Dave Meheen of Meheen manufacturing he's a good friend of mine 866 379 8685 tell him Kyle Graham of extreme diesel performance sent you.
