Hi All
While checking to see if my turbo and turbo housing were playing touchy – feely I noticed this white stuff on the turbo fins it is kinda chalky and you can see in the photo where I scraped some off with my fingernail. Anybody know what this is? And should it be there? I know this thing twirls pretty quick so I’d assume it would not take much to make it out of balance.
THANKS In advance.

Last time I did my oil change I noticed the same thing. Kind of a white rectangular mark on one blade. It didn't show any damage so I shrugged it off. I have an amsoil filter and it also looked OK. Truck runs great. ?????

If it's the white rectangular mark that RichB59 is talking about dont worry, That is a balancing mark that used at the factory. When Majestic did my HX40 I watched them and they just use a black marking pen so the strobe has a reference point.

The white stuff is aluminum oxidation. Usually comes from sitting uncovered too long, but I've seen some in humid or extremely temp variant climates do it from intake moisture. Doesn't really hurt anything, unless it sits long enough to actually eat away at the surface (years). Can be removed with a light swipe from a Scrothbrite pad, but I heard some guys using baking soda and water in a spray bottle, tho I never tried that... T

Thanks everyone!
lets see if I can get this pic to show up

Sorry 'bout incorrect info. I was picturing actual white oxidation crust, which was a common question by owner/ operators at Cat over the years... T
