Need to replace the turbo gasket while installing my new exhaust. Picked one up at the *******. It's one big hole. I see others with the split window style. Did I get the right gasket?

Thanks

I think NOT... the large, undivided gasket/manifold is the T4i from a 6. 7 CTD. The T3 is divided and is used on the 24v 5. 9. I can post pics and a measurement if you want. Genos garage has both.

yes, if you have a stock turbo. No if you don't. The stocker has a single volute. The manifold and most aftermarket turbos have two volutes and use the earlier two hole gasket. iirc Cummins # 3901356

My 06 5. 9 was the one with one hole. I think they're the same for the last several years of the 5. 9.

OK took the turbo out. Like everyone said, and I tried anyway, but the stud keeps you from letting the turbo drop. I had to remove the exhaust manifold to get the turbo out. Better that way anyway as I'm also replacing the oil drain gasket at the turbo.

It's an aftermarket hitech and it does have two chambers as does the manifold.

The fellow that installed my turbo way back when used a pair of asbestos style gaskets... . not steel. And they look to have only had the single hole. Lasted probably 75,000 miles.

I don't see why using the square one matters. Having a minute gap between the two chambers shouldn't be a problem would it. Love to get the job done today otherwise I'm on hold for parts.

While you have it apart, use a die grinder to align the ports between the turbo and manifold.

Thanks. Not a bad idea but just don't have the time.

Got the turbo and manifold back on and had her running yesterday. Now to clean all the soot from the leak off the intake parts and install. Then the new exhaust goes on.

Here's a few pics and a video...

A "Super B Special" and their manifold my have saved you all that work with its much lower drive pressure.

I would agree on the BD manifold, but I would choose HT's 62/71/13SS over BD's Super B Special, especially if any towing is involved.

Love my HT. It's been bulletproof. Didn't feel like spending $600 for a manifold. Don't think it makes that much difference and can keep the money in my pocket.

Hard to argue with the $ saved, and as far as dyno numbers you are probably correct. However the BD manifold would flow much better, lowering piston temps and helping lo/mid-range torque. Anyways, good job on the repair Yo Hoot, keep enjoying that 04!
