Turbo Housing ID

Here's a nobrainer for what seems like everyone on this forum...

How do I identify which housing my truck has? Assuming it has not been changed it is a...

If it has been changed, how can I tell what it is? (The previous owner said he had the pump turned up and a few other things... )

Uncle Billy,
On the back (firewall) side of the turbo exh housing about 1/2 " from the manifold flange is a bunch of #s. It takes a small hand mirror and even at that they'll be upside down; but when you find them there should be a two digit set about the second to the last line. That'll be an 18 or 21, maybe 16 or 12 if its been changed out. They're the cm2 and thats what everybody references. Hope this helps, Jones

If the housing is stock you should see the size as part of the casting. It will be "raised" number on the casting. I THINK your year was 21cm if it is stock.
My aftermarket 16cm doesn't have any identifying marks.
But hey, what do I know. Thats why I hang around here, to learn.

Nope. If I recall (I read it here) up to 91. 5 (I think) had the 21cm, after that they came with a 18. 5cm. Mine is a 93. 5 model year and it had the 18. 5cm hot end housing.

I'm not trying to be contrary but I wonder if you reversed that year/size?
My truck came with a 18cm housing. In fact when I read your post I went into garage and looked again to make sure. Sure enough it said 18cm on it. I also thought I read somewere on this site the same info you mentioned, but just reverse size with the 21. 5's being on the earlier trucks??
If not, I wonder how I got a 18 on my 93. 5 straight from the dealer, new. ???

'Lil Dog is correct except for the '93 model year which went back to the 18. 5cm housing.

When I swapped mine out with a 16cm2, I noticed my factory (I assume) housing was marked as an 18cm2.

This on a 1992 Le 2wd.

Uhhh ooops... . Sorry Bushwaker, I thought the 18. 5's came on the 180 Hp versions in 94 not in 93. Sorry guys. If I remember correctly Fritz's site said the same for 93 having the 18.
