Help all you knowledgeable folks. I have my turbo out and can't get the housing off!. . I have tried soaking in solvent, using rubber mallet, and I just can't seperate the housing from the compressor side. And yes I took the bolts out. . wife asking :-{} now truck is apart and I am having to hear about it :confused: any ideas guys? TIA Robert

Turbo

You'll find that you will be better off using a real hammer, those housings are not easy to get off. Thanks Steve B.

you should have 4 13mm bolts removed? and the 2 half circle retainers?

if so, the turbo should come right apart... you can use a small block of wood with a hammer, you won't damage anything, just be carefull when it does come apart that you don't damage the exhaust wheel.

You can LIGHTLY tap the exhaust wheel with a small block or brass drift...

HOLD IT! ..... before you go out and start banging on the housing, be very careful when you do this! you may hit it but spin the rotor assy. while doing this... if you hear/feel/ see that the turbine blades are scraping or binding on the housing, either hit the opposite side of the housing, or tap it back in place, be careful it dont take much to screw up the blades, and throw it of balance, then you would have a real problem on your hands. take your time... my 12 housing was stubborn as well, and took forever to come off but i was very leary that i might hurt the turbo because the hosuing was not cooperating with me. just my 2 cents! happy bombing

Well, let her soak all night and am still a little relucentant to use a bigger hammer. :( All bolts and retainers out and she still spins fine. I have been tapping all the way around the housing. . maybe I would be better to take it to a machine shop tomorrow :{ Just how much does it take to break the cast housing?

Thanks guys just the thought of now truck :{

I use a bfh (big f***ing hammer) when removing the turbine housing, between carbon build up and extreem heat they tend to bond to the bearing housing and heat sheild.

whatever you do dont hit the turbine wheel assembly with a punch or drift of any kind, youll end up breaking the the thrust washer and require a new chra (center housing rotating assembly)

Go to... TSTproducts.com and get in touch with Mark Chappell,` he'll explain how to do it without any damage being done... . good luck! gathomas TDR member
